I just came home from a trip delivering near Las Vegas.

This was my second trip to the southwest in a month and the scenery and weather were fantastic once in UT, NV, AZ and NM.

We took I-40 across AZ and NM coming home.

I am the morning driver it seems and thats fine with me.
We stayed at a stop in western AZ.
I started driving east as the sun had only been up a few minutes and all I can say is Holy Nuclear Furnaces Batman.
I thought I knew what bright sunlight was having driven into the rising sun going to work for years in the upper midwest, but that desert sun is something to behold

My cheapy sunglasses are not going to cut it in that enviroment!

What are some good brands of sunglasses that will filter out the UV radiation and knock down the sunlight so I can drive safely.

Oakleys are a little to pricey for me and I dont want anything with heavy frames that will limit peripheral vision.

Short of welding goggles what works for you :D

Thanks for the recommendations.
I guess if I want my eyes to last I should rethink my penny pinching.

Try a pair of Maui Jim's. I have a pair and couldn't be happier. They cost me a few bucks, but they are worth it. They work very well here in New England with snow and all. BOL

   Been there - done that!!

Answer? Breakfast! Seriously..... if you'd have waited about 20 minutes longer to start driving, the sun would be at least up into your visor area. I usually stop for breakfast when the sun comes up and sits on the road like that.

I wear prescription Oakley Juliets for driving. Goddam wanna talk expensive!!! But I bought them about 4 years ago so I think I got my moneys worth.

I also wear prescription Ruby Project Graals. Definetly a great pair of glasses as long as you don't mond looking like a geek. These come with 3 sets of lenses and are found for less then 100.

I also have amber oakley rain sunglasses but not much use for driving I find.

Spotters-if you haven't tried a pair you should. These are the ultimate driving glasses. Their web site is at : http://www.spotters-shades.com/

And no, I don't work for them. I just love the pair that I got with prescription lenses in them. Also the accountant said I can deduct them. :)

I just wear Uvex Tomcats, actually bought them for work, the plastic frames would break when I was working in the winter time, and the tomcats were metal frame, cost between 5-7 dollars.
I would say there are better out there then what I wear, but I like wearing safetyglasses, my eyes are important to me, and my mom would be pissed if I ruined anything like that, that she gave me.

Do not know about spotters but I fish mountain streams and the light can get blinding. So I went to a mall with a fountain and pool in direct sunlight and had the salemen come with me while I tried on a number of different glasses.
The Maui Jim lenses beat everything including Oakleys which I wanted to buy for the style of the frames.
Nothing comes close.
The choice of lenses are phenomenal and you choose exactly the UV protection you want and the colour you want to increase acuity.
For Sea water the deep black blue lenses.
For stream fishing and for increasing contrast the bronze lenses are just magic. It cuts out reflection as if there was none.
What I loved about the oakleys were the changeable lenses with the ability to add yellow lenses for competitive sportmen.
Doctors recommend the Maui Jim's for cataracts because they cut out sun damage better than any other lenses.
But they are heavy.

OH MY  I just saw the price for those, well the frame style that would fit me. I would defiantly have to try a pair on before I ever bought a pair of those
