Wow thats an open eneded question.
There are a number of factors to making that decision. The company that works for me may or may not work for him or for you.
Look for a balance of pay, benefits, hometime, and equipment.
Ask lots of questions about policies, equipment, mileage, fees, and anything else you can think of. He is wanted in the industry so he can be picky!
HT
PS: The USX regional no longer does the 3 weekends out of 4 home. I was going to USX but they have changed their hometime. |

Just wondering, what is their SE regional home time now? One good thing about USX; If you don't like the way they do things, waite two weeks, it'll change :P . Kinda like the weather. |

I talked to 4 different recruiters over the last 3 weeks.
They all said the "new" super regional is basically the country is split in half. your hometime is 34-36 hours every 7-10 days and 2 of the recruiters said it was more like 10-12 days some weeks.
The USX web site now reflects the "Super Regional" |

| What part of Georgia are you in? I live in N.West Ga. and I am driving for Star Transport in Morton Il. Star hires in Georgia, and has had me home every weekend. The pay is not the best in the industry, starting at .27 cpm, however I am averaging 2600 miles per week. Star has fairly decent equipment ( 387 Peterbilts ) and even during my time with a trainer I got home every weekend. I guess you need to figure out what is best for your situation, as far as home time and pay etc. let me know if you are interested, and I can give you the recruiters # and ext. |

Was when I quit back in Sept 04 I ran very hard at times I avg 3500 miles to 4500 miles but you dont have to run that hard what ever floats your boat. :D |

US Xpress no doubt. I was a trainer there and if I ever quit my gig that I have now, I'll be back at USX. |

Yes many do have terminals in the Atlanta area. But the presence of a terminal should not be the deciding factor in whether or not you would work for them.

I wouldn't keep that thought too cut and dried.....you could lose out on a lot of good opportunities that way. Just because a company provides orientation in GA doesn't make them any better or worse than one that doesn't.
Whether or not to work for a particular company should be based on far more than a couple of conveniences. When I first went to work for CFI in 96' I had to relocate to another state, because they did not hire in FL. I had to go to Joplin, MO for Orientation... thats the only place they had Orientation at that time. And back then...you paid your own way to orientation. Its different now, they pay your way, and they have orientation in a number of major metro areas...including Atlanta.
I made two decisions based on a ton of information that I had gathered, and I traveled distances to get what I needed done....and now, years later I can say that I would still do it that way again....and I am happy I made the decisions that I did.
I am living back in FL...no terminal here, and they don't have orientations here...I just bring my truck home.
Never limit your choices or options based on "conveniences"..... |

And what happens if they fail one part of the orientation process now the poor sap has to take a bus all the way bac home. This is common sense
its called preparing for the unexpected. Having a terminal keeps everything more productive maint on your off time etc etc.
theirs nothing wrong with conveniences the more conveniences the better.
they dont have to search the entire world to find a decent companies theirs plenty in ga. |
