It's obvious that longer hauls would generally pay more-per-week (due to miles run).

That 'some' drivers (more family-oriented?) would prefer to run local if such would pay XXX percentage more.

That some OTR drivers would 'sacrifice' xxx percentage to be home daily.

THX for participating in this poll.

If I could make 80% of what I do OTR I'd stay at home and do it daily! I voted for 20%, although 20% may mean a lot more or less to someone else

I am an old duffer (60) and new as a CDL A...
Within the next several months I am going to go with a company that hires casual drivers and seems to respect them and treat them very well...
I would way rather earn "less" and enjoy life/family more...
Time is very very short...seems just months ago I was a puppy of only 40!!

I just didn't get it!

Why you assume, that more miles, always mean, more money?

I'm home every weekend, and often during the week. Making more money, than when i've run 48, and stayed out 3 weeks at a time!

The friend of mine, home every night, and making more than i do! 8)

So, i'd say it's very questionable!

I echo what Solo said it aint about the miles its about the money. I'm home almost every night and very seldom work on a weekend. I probably get home with at least twice what I made OTR. In case you didn't know it often times short runs pay more than longer runs when calculated on a per mile basis.............Don

Me too. Get on with an LTL company. Twice the pay, home some days during the week, and home every weekend. No too mention full benefits for $37/wk

In my buisness, OTR is what pays and local is what pays less. Of course, in my industry, drivers are compenstaed for their time, and not miles.

It seems that OTR is where ya pay your dues before you grab a local job that actually pays better?

I like short hauls, myself. They may be time consuming, but they pay compartively better than longer hauls. We actually have a charge to customers for short haul shipment, if it doesn't go beyond a radius.

None, we like what we do. We don't stay out here for more $$, we stay out here cause we like to drive.

I know some of you just are never going to understand that. We didn't become OTR drivers so we could be home nightly or every weekend.
