| The resume switch on the cruise control sets the high idle or you can use the + button, and that question made me realize my error in my last post. The truck idles at 600, but high idles at 700 not to shutdown. |

| I remember the windshield wash spraying the mirror too. A small issue to me. Just a reminder to fully scrub and clean them everyday. :P |

I also like that one of the electronic guages tells me how many gallons are in the tanks and the distance I can go on the remaining fuel based on the current fuel efficiency.
Uhm...don't trust that guage because it isn't accurate. I've drove on several occasions when that guage indicated that I was empty. But then again, I've drove over a hundred miles several times when the regular fuel guaged indicated I was also empty too. |

The volvo I have does not have an opti-idle feature, but it will run all night without shutting itself off, I can increase the idle a bit by turning on the cruise control and pressing the - button on the side and it will increase the idle a bit to get the heat flow going faster for me. Hope this answers your question. |

Gunstra; thanks for the response. I knew there was some switch on Freightliners that opti-idle. Volvos have it in the cruise control. Go safely; see you on the big road! |

379 and w900 to put it in car terms are more like a cadilac escalade and a frightshaker like a nissan pathfinder. Volvo might be a Ford Explorer. lol.
dont compare a volvo to a ford (ford backwords= means driver returned on foot) or even more aggresivly put, ( ford= found on road dead) |

Pete's are alright, mine is a 379, 500 hp Cat, 18 speed, owner op. spec'd
govern'd out @ 75. Smooth, quiet, no leaks, plenty of pullin power
it's a " Big Dog " truck.
Volvo's have a nice array of safety features most trucks don't have, I
heard that in a front end collision, the engine drops to the ground. My
old truck was a volvo, and it had a very good ride.
But there is nothing as sweet, as a shining Pete.
com'on. |

i drive a 2006 volvo and it is in the shop more then on the road.
constant ecu problems and the fuel filters need changed once a month
and if you have the t.a.s climate control system it doesnt work as well as the others out there
it has the volvo engine witch is to under powered to do any good
this is just my experience with volvo but i think the freightliners are better |

I like Volvo better than anything else I've ever driven. Smooth ride, sharp turning, good visibility.
But there are several little things that I don't like about Volvo.
1. Dash switches are all upside-down. UP should be ON, DOWN should be OFF. Volvo does it backwards from what you may be used to on any other brand of truck.
2. The hookup light switch is at the far lower left of the dashboard. Great spot for easy reach while standing outside. But I keep hitting it with my left knee and turning the light on while driving. (Wouldn't be a problem if UP was ON. I'll probably get a ticket someday because of it.)
3. The new mirror design (with either the wrinkle paint back or chrome back) vibrates less than the old design, but the adjustment motors take way too long to spin down. You have to let off the adjuster switch well before the mirror reaches the place you want it to stop.
4. Another bug with the new mirrors. The driver's side wide-angle mirror doesn't have enough range into the upper-left corner. When it's in the right spot vertically, then I see my door in half the mirror instead of what's beside me. When it's adjusted properly side-to-side, then it's way too low up-and-down.
5. No easy way to get in position to clean the windshield.
6. Air suspension dump won't stay down after the key is switched off. I can't understand the logic behind that design.
7. If you have your "favorites" gauge screen showing on the dashboard, it takes at least 7 switch strokes to zero trip odometer #1 and at least 8 switch strokes to zero trip odometer #2. This should be a one-button operation.
8. The 6-position Cummins engine brake control is located at about 2 O'clock behind the steering wheel, and just behind that is the windshield wiper control. Sometimes I smear the bugs on the windshield when I really just want to slow down.
9. The 6-position switch doesn't work properly since they did away with the 600HP Cummins. Now, positon 1 is OFF. Positions 2 and 3 are Stage 1. Positons 4 and 5 are Stage 2. Position 6 is Stage 3. Volvo should go back to six stages of braking with the 6-position switch.
10. Air horn on the steering wheel. There should also be a cable contol beside your head. Many times I've been in a bad situation and needed to blow the horn, and my truck remained silent while I waved my hand overhead trying to find the air horn cable that wasn't there. Also I've awakened prematurely while parked napping behind the wheel of a Volvo daycab after my head blew the air horn.
11. Some cups will toggle the A/C on or off because the A/C switch is right behind the cupholder. Same thing happens with the vent control. |

|

| I have a question about Volvo space. I was in a driver's freightshaker. He has his cooler under the desk on the driver's side of the cab. Does Volvo provide such a space for a cooler or do you have to put it elsewhere? As far TV/DVD combos, the standard is 13". Can you put a larger one in the space that is provided for TVs? Thanks in advance. Go safely; see you on the big road! |

Depends on the model. The smaller Volvo cabs are smaller than a 70" Century. But the big Volvo dwarfs the 70" Century. I had a 770 and I once measured for a fridge behind the driver's seat. Going from memory here, but I believe it was in the neighborhood of 33"H x 20.5" W x 21" D. That was with the drawer in place. I could have easily moved my socks into a small duffle and pulled the drawer completely out for another 6 or 7 inches of height. I had plans for an AC compressor fridge, but got off the road instead.
