Kat isn't driving anymore, she opened a bakery and I'm a CDL instructor. I still talk to her on another board. There aren't many women left here or many of the old regulars for that matter.

Hey Reb ... no I'm not OTR ... I just had surgery on my right hand (May 3rd) arthriitis is a bad thing . Which I've lost the padding between my thumb bones on both hands . The procedure I had done is called - 'excision arthroplasty' ...I never knew they could take part of a tendon out of my arm and make a padding out of it ... I just had the cast removed yesterday. Seriously considering the thought of having my left hand done repaired also before the end of July ... So pulling on a 5th wheel and etc just isn't gonna work for me anymore.

My spirit will always be on the road ... I still stop at truck stops to have coffee and listen to the trackor's idle. Reb where are you teaching ?

NO Roadhog .... you crazy man .... kiss? .... Reb is a nice person but I don't play on that side of the fence.

Roses, sorry to hear about your surgery & hope you heal well. Are you thinking of a "second calling"???

Reb, good to hear your still out there. Good for Kat! A new career is always a challenge....she'll do well.

I'm now home & loving every bit of it. We bred our female pug & kept 2 of the pups. They are well mannered after the many months of hand training them, only one goes for the odd road trip. Hubby is still out there. I really loved doing flatbed with him, regardless of all the work. However, I did suffer a shoulder injury & have much more mobility now & back playing golf.

I'll continue to check in with all of you. Enjoy your summer, everyone.

Reb, I have mixed emotions. In a way, I envy you being an instructor, however, I do still remember my days of training other drivers. Back, just before you had to go to school to get a job driving. I had some very good and promising people, some that are still out there doing a great job. But, the pendulum swings both ways..... I miss it, and yet, I don't miss it. (7 big suitcases, then sits behind the wheel, looking out the windshield... "I gotta get my KARMA...")

Roses, I'd like to say I'm sorry to hear that you needed surgery... Well, actually, I am sorry to hear it. But, we also know that the human body was never designed to last forever. As we get older, things change. None of us is the same as we were even 5 years ago. Hopefully, things will work much better after the procedure heals up. Best of luck to you.

Thank you Windwalker for your kind words .... your right about our body wasn't made to last forever ... I think part of my problem is - I wore it out to early in life ... being single for many years I've always worked a min. of 2 jobs at one time ... heck there was a time in life ... I was working 5 places at 1 time ... thank God for insurace ..

AMEN TO THAT!!! When Edie had cancer back in '01, if we didn't have insurance, I'd still be paying that off half way through my next life. She had been one of them there "work-aholics" too. Although, after we met and she started driving truck with me, it wouldn't work out well to try having one job driving OTR, and standing at a cash register or screen printing at the same time. Since the cancer, she's tried several things, but needs the "ladies room" within 6 feet of her work station. And, it can not be occupied when she has to go. Really puts the cramps on a lot of the things she used to do.

If she had not gotten a DUI, we'd most likely still be out there running "super-single". At this point, she's been off the road for 4 years, and we all know what that means. So, she's keeping busy with her crafts, and I'm collecting my SS. That and fixing lawn mowers. The oil in the gulf hasn't gotten to my fishing holes yet. But, it seems that some of the bigger fish have come much closer to shore because of it. Hooked a marlin or swordfish the other day, and didn't have the tackle to keep it. Only got one look at it when it cleared the water and broke the line.

There comes a time when we all deserve to enjoy what we want, rather than do "what we have to".

I am sorry to hear about your surgery, Roses. I hope you heal quickly. Perhaps you could do team and have your codriver do the pulling on the fifth wheel.
