Default I tried to help

To the young lady pulling for Melton in Illinois today at the rest area. You asked me for help and I tried to explain it and help you twice then you said you didn't need my help and you could do it yourself. I will say it one more time. "The front tarp should cover the back one, Not the other way around" Unless you are driving back to Oklahoma in reverse. Have a nice day.

Always, ALWAYS, ALWAYS, start tarping from the back of the trailer, that way the leading edge of the tarp is not exposed to the wind. You were absolutely right, Jumbo. Must have been her first load. How do you know she's online? Or a member here?

FLAME ON!!! }:[

That it was in your heart to do, Jumbo... thanks from those of us who know real help when it's offered.

I tried to "suggest" this very concept to my "instructor", too...with pretty much the same result! He thought it was just "silly woman banter"---I just quietly waited until we stopped to re-tarp for the fourth time. Got out, climbed up, demanded to do it "my way", and then rode in silence for the rest of the night.

Some folks just don't know when they're being presented with a better idea...

Men do it too. It was raining somewhere down in the FL panhandle I was #3 in line and watched a driver on the other side of the lot under the shed roll out the front tarp first then the second from the rear. I don't remember who he drove for. It was raining too hard and I got moved into load situation, and he was gone afterwards. So, I guess I'm guilty of "letting one F%^k up".

I hope this current situation wasn't a "short tarp/long load/long drop" situation. These can be challenging to keep from going awry.

I've seen a couple of times when the rear tarp came off the back end of the load, even with the leading tarp covering the edge of the rear tarp. If the rear tarp isn't securely anchored under the front tarp, the wind can pull it out and the result is about the same. I get the impression that there are carriers putting drivers on flatbed loads with far too little training, or with far too little common sense.

You are correct about securing the rear tarp underneath the front. The wind can pull an unsecured tarp out in no time.
