Have any of you heard of any companies that require a road test BEFORE a person goes out with a trainer? I thought it was the other way around.
Any info/insight here will be greatly appreciated.

Well I've worked for 4 different companys ... and everyone of them make you take a driver test before you head out on the road .... doesn't matter if your going with a Trainer or if your an experienced driver. It's just policy.
Which company have you decided on or have you? ........... I've found that the companys that hire a person right out of school ... already know your not going to driver perfect ... your going to grind the gears, or make a turn to wide ... the big thing is just don't hit anything. Keep a very close watch on your mirrors. ...
Hang in there and you'll be fine.

Thanks for getting back to me on this...everything still seems so new! It's comforting to know that this isn't an unusual request--I think I've been left feeling a little "hypervigilant" after a few other training experiences!!
I've decided to go with Crete. I'm waiting for a trainer, now, but just heard that I'll have to take a road test before I can go with my trainer. I guess it makes sense, though, as a part of the evaluation process.
Thanks, Roses...BTW, LOVE your avatar!

Jewels ... I've only heard good things about Crete. .. good choice! ... I like the idea that you have to be with a Finisher/Trainer for a few months ... which is a good idea.
When I started with CFI they make everyone go through a list of different task to see where your ability is or where you may need more work. It didn't matter if you were a student coming out of school or already had miles under you. Example of what I had to go through .... drive test ~ 45 degree backing ~ drive through an obstacle course with barrels set up, circles and sharp turns. The important thing was NOT to hit anything.
What ever they need you to do it .. to see the level of your driving ability, just do it with a smile on your face. Take a deep breath and remember how hard you had to work just to get to the place you are  ... and the rest will fall into place.

Someone takes a second out of her assuredly busy life to drop a few lines of encouragement to a fellow driver.
Your words, and time, are appreciated. It really has been difficult, and I've questioned my decision more than a few times...but in the end, it still comes back that this is what I want to do, and this is where I want to be. You're right, I HAVE put a lot into learning what's needed to succeed in my chosen field...and there's NO WAY I'm cuttin' it loose now!
I may not be grinning, but I'm sticking with it until it's mine!

Good for YOU, Jewels!! None of this is REAL easy.... but none is all that HARD, either! Like Roses said, all companies know how limited your abilities are when you are new. They don't expect you to be perfect. I DO think, however, that they want to see a certain level of CONFIDENCE in you! So.... if you KNOW you can DO this.... let is SHOW!Originally Posted by JewelsnTools
