there's always going to be some jerk out there ready and willing to put his foot in his mouth. The smart guys (like me ) know that some people can do more/bigger/better things no matter what there sex. Just remember we not all like that. I think you should think about going back there and buying the truck from the manager

I have been driving truck for a long time. Some men will never be happy with women working in 'their' world. Some other men think it is great and treat you as an equal, and respect you for what you are doing. The way I look at it; a job is a job, and I am just a PERSON doing a job.

Thanks Repete. Many of us women know that not all men think or feel that way. The ones that don't we greatly appreciate it. Don't we girls!!! Drive safe everyone.

    Unfortunately, not true.

Everyone knows about the 'testosterone poisoning' that male drivers have, and the younger they are, the more they're prone to it.

But there have been many instances where a female driver has ended up doing something stupid simply because she was too stubborn to ask for help. Can't do that, ya know--someone might think you're not a Real Driver.

Hey, I don't see where a driver's gender has anything to do with their ability. I've never had to drive a truck with my ding-dong, and don't know anyone who has. But chicks can be just as prone to egomania as dudes can. I understand that women in a male-dominated industry undergo lots of pressure and hassle that men don't. But being a dumbass because of your ego--well, that's just being a dumbass, regardless of your gender or circumstance. That's the way I see it. :?

When I went for orientation with my current company, the safety guy said point blank that they prefer women drivers, they are safer. This is proven, the average miles driven per accident is better with women.

Unfortunately, up here, Canada, we gals make up less than 10% of the professional driving population... I, myself, have been driving as a professional for 27 years now. I am an owner/operator as well. Good for YOU that gender means diddly...I WISH it was like that for all, but, alas, it is not.

I still have to PROVE myself everywhere I go. THAT is the way it is.

I agree that many of the younger women drivers out there DO have big egoes, I have seen it! It's funny really. A gal with a dick!

That's what I'm saying, WK. I realize that in professions like ours, chicks have to work twice as hard as dudes to get half the credit. But when something's out of your range, cop to it and let the person with experience guide you. Trying to Prove Yourself can get you in a mess of trouble, and at that point it doesn't matter whther you have an innie or an outie.

ABSOLUTELY!!! I've never been afraid to admit I didn't know something or ask for help if I need it. I just get tired of SOME guys thinking I am dumb cause I'm little & blonde! Tho, truth be told, I CAN play the "dumb blonde" very well if the situation calls for it!! Just keep it between us tho ok

Been sittin here trying to figure out why I DON'T have to...I think its because the driver population up here is older. They all have nothing but respect for me and for some of them, after running this highway for 35 years or so its refreshing to see something different. lol
Running this highway is like having a huge family, I wouldn't live up here if it wasn't for them. I probably know 75% of the trucks that go by me.

Hmm, hard to say though. When I ran out of Peace River, Alberta, I had no trouble there either.

I wish i knew more women that trucked.

There have never been any women drivers at any of the local companys i have drove for. I knew a few older women that run long haul. But i have never even heard of any young women in their 20's around my area that even drive trucks at all!

I wish more young women would start driving, it would be more interesting at work, working with old guys all day, every day gets boring.

I drive dump trucks right now.

I think some women would have washroom problems where i work tho, theres alot of days, we are no where near a washroom, You just piss on the ground, when u gotta go, so women might have problems with that.
I'm taking about working in gravel pits and construction projects, alot of times there isn't even a port a potty!

Ok now I feel the need to defend some of the younger women drivers. Notice I said some. I know not all of us can be that bad. I just do my job to the best of my ability, and if I can't do something then I can't do it. I feel there is no shame in admitting when you can't do something. Better to admit it now, than prove it later. Anyways if you don't admit it then how will you learn how to do it if you don't ask.

    Ya'll drive safe.

BB, you know what time it is. 8)

Hey, I've been known to ask old hands to help me out. Nowadays, I help the n00bs. But I still listen to the people who've been at this longer than me. Anyone who gives you crap for asking is a putz. And anyone who won't ask due to their pride is a wreck waiting to happen.

See ya on the road, BB--and anyone who knows their limitations is a professional who has all my respect. :!:
