    Default Lady flat-bedders

Just curious . . . are there any lady flat-bedders?

    What company?

How old are you (approximate is fine )?

How long have you been driving flat beds?

There are a few lady flat-bedders at Arrow. I personaly spent 2 years riding with my BF and he is a flat-bedder.....I could NEVER do that job alone....but some women do.

There are very few lady truckers in the U.K to start with, and I,m sure there are even fewer on flats; And I,m 100% certain there are no lady drivers over here on heavy haul.
Shame as some lady drivers are much better than a lot of bloke drivers :?

I wouldn't think too many women would want to work that hard. But there would be some. If I was a bit younger, I'd give it a try.

That is super that she is driving flatbed! It is also fantastic that Maverick trucking company can give her the recognition she well deserves. So many companies couldn't care less about their dedicated employees. Male or female.

I don't anymore, I did for a very short time, hauling flats, and B trains, I also used to help my dad as a kid tarping, set up covered wagons, roll up tarps etc.

I am 29 yrs old, I am in very good shape and have the strength to do the work, and I have always been a hard worker, growing up on a farm and all, so I never did mind doing physical work

I would like to go back to doing some thing like that where I can do more physical work

I personally don't know any women who haul flatbed, It is a little bit more work and you need to be physically able to move tarps around and stuff, this is probably why there aren't more women doing this kind of work

Hey... I'm going to school with Maveric Jan. 8 to flatbed. My dad was a trucker all his life and always said I should do it. I have never had a problem with physical work. The only thing I see that will be a PIMA is stretching out frozen tarps....gggrrr. Wish me luck : )

I know there are some female flatbedders. It is possible. There's really nothing difficult about flatbedding. Alot of folks that have never done it think it's the toughest thing in the world, but it's really not. Most women can handle a 70lb steel tarp, and typically the forklift operator will toss your lumber tarps up for you. I know I can't handle throwing a 100lb+ lumber tarp over my head so most women couldn't do it either. But it doesn't stop me from hauling azz. No reason it should stop a woman who wants a bit more of a challenge than just opening a set of doors. Really, any woman that thinks anything of herself can do anything a man can do. And excel at it.

Hey...thanks for the link to your blog. It was very helpful in knowing what I can expect. Are you finished with your training yet? If so... are you still satisfied with Maverick? I done quite a bit of researching to find what I thought was the best deal out there...Maverick won. I am just nervous now hoping I made the best choice.

Thanks for ackowledging that women can do whatever a man can. Most of my friends think I'm trying to be super woman just because I chose to start with flatbed driving. I just enjoy a challenge.

I started out with flats in 91, strayed away, then came back to them full-time in 02. I team most of the time, but still run by myself if we need a break or he's hurt/sick....

I do 99% of the tarping, that was the deal when I decided that I wanted to do what we do now. It requires everything (almost) be tarped and he hates tarping. It's not as difficult as it seems; kinda like wrapping big presents.

I don't particularly care for high loads that need straps b/c I'm out of practice throwing the ($*#$^ things that high (& only 5'4). When I did it all the time, I had the technique down pat, now I have to throw a few times and cuss some. I much prefer equipment and chains to anything that needs a strap.

IMHO, the shippers, receivers, and generally, the other drivers are much better/easier to deal with too. I doubt I'll ever own another trailer with walls/doors; if I do, I won't be pulling it.

I pulled flats for Arrow for a little while..... loved it. If I ever go back out on the road, 99.9% chance I'll go back to the flats.

Hard work, yes... but more so than the actual physical side of it, remembering all the cargo restraint rules was more of a challenge for me. But there's nothing like the sense of pride you have going down the road with a perfectly buttoned up load, and knowing that every truck you pass can see it.

Really, any woman that thinks anything of herself can do anything a man can do. And excel at it.

    ???

LOL. Oh, I can think of one or two things a woman will never do as well as a man . . .

But, seriously . . . that's not a completely accurate statement that you made . . . just in my opinion, of course.

I know we like to believe that we're all equal, but there are significant differences between the sexes in upper body strength, lifting capacity and pulling capacity. You can always find the puny male who's to weak to do anything and use him as a foil . . . but on average, most women can't do the physical work men can do. (Please note: on average.)

Lots of careers are realizing that fact after 30 years of enforced political correctness. Police for example . . . female officers are involved in more shootings and departments with higher percentage of female officers have higher percentages of injuries among officers of both sexes.

Bottom line, it seems like flatbedding is more about smart work than muscle power . . . which is why I was asking if women flatbed.
