Default Nebraska community colleges???

In my search for CDL training I came across a couple community colleges in nebraska that have interesting programs. Southeast and Metro Community Colleges have about the same programs, but the cost/quality makes the course almost too good to be true. However, after speaking with some people there, I still have a good feeling about it; I'd just like to hear from people who have experience/knowledge with the programs. The basic course costs about $1,000 for 10 weeks; the first part of training has 115 classroom hours, 108 lab hours, 20 backing hours and 34 hours driving experience (277 total) before license testing-then an internship of 200+ hours driving with a trainer.

I certainly plan to contact them again to ask many questions, but if those hours are correct, I can't help but believe the course would be beneficial to everyone-that is quite a good cost/quality ratio. Excellent price with lots of driving time with the "down" side being the 200 hour internship that would delay starting with a company and making money. I'll gladly take a 3 week unpaid delay over signing on for a year with whatever company or paying 4-5 times as much for a 160 hour course.

If anyone has any experience or input, please let me know. Thank you.

Default

The nice thing about both colleges, Crete Carrier & Shaffer Trucking will hire students that attend the program.

The one thing that isn't factored into the cost is room and board for the time period that you are attending.

SECC will begin January 7, 2008.

Good luck.

Default tricks up my sleeve...

Thanks bluebeetle and syl77dar for the info. After talking with a couple people at the school and learning that Crete/Shaffer hire their grads, I was assured more of the quality of training; I am just surprised at the price compared to most other schools with much less drive time.

I am looking at a couple options in funding. I have an Americorps education award from my time as a volunteer that I can use for anything education related as long as the school is title IV (even if the program isn't). It is enough that I can pay the tuition/costs for the course as well as housing/food/transportation. I just need to do the legwork.

Thanks again, and any other info is more than welcome.
