Default Money For School

What financing options are out there for going to school?

One of the schools I am looking at suggests Pell Grants or other means for getting money for school. I have not jumped into researching these but feel that I could get my schooling paid for by Uncle Sam if I do some leg work.

Have any of you used any of this money other than the GI Bill? If so, was it a loan or a grant? I prefer a grant (who does'nt). I would like to have more info before I start talking to some of these schools.

Thanks

Call your local unemployment office or Workforce and see if they have any schools that participate in the state's WIA program.

yeah.....I was about to say the same thing. I was laid off a while back and I recieved WIA. It is kind of a pain in the ass to get....all the dam paperwork, but my persistence paid off.

In my Truck driving class of 10 people only 1 was paying out of pocket. The rest all aplied for WIA and some other programs that paid for thier schooling.

Sorry, what is an WIA?

I recently sold my business and have always wanted to try driving for a living. Every where I go there seems to be a shortage of drivers. I can not collect unemployment because I was an officer of the corporation that owned the business. Is the WIA have anything to do with someone that is laid off or on workers comp?

WIA is the Workforce Investment Act it is program set up to assist "dislocated" workers or people who lost thier job due to reasons beyond thier control such as lay offs due to work being sent overseas or other reasons. The feds have money set aside to assist certain individuals, but it is not an easy task. There is a lot of paperwork and hassle to get and can take from 6 months to a 1 year in some places.

After bugging them for about 3 months and making phone calls and writing letters it finally paid off. They sent $4,000 to a truck driving school and they also pay me $12.00 a day for 4 weeks for gas and food. I am a laid off machinist.

Just Google: WIA
