    Default EdgeStar PL430 12V Fridge/Freezer...Will it fit?

I need some help. I bought my husband the above-mentioned as a surprise and now I don't know whether it will fit in his truck! Here are the dimensions:

    Exterior Unit Dimensions:
    Height: 20.8 ”
    Width: 24.7 ”
    Depth: 17.7 ”

    Interior Unit Dimensions:
    Large Basket Space:
    Length: 11""
Width: 11 7/16 ” (measured from hinge side to front)
Height: 14 15/16 " (measured from bottom to top)
    Small Basket Space:
    Length: 7 "
    Width: 11 7/16 "
Height: 7 1/16 " (measured from step to top)
Interior Unit Dimensions: Large Basket Space:
    Length: 11""
Width: 11 7/16 ” (measured from hinge side to front)
Height: 14 15/16 " (measured from bottom to top)
    Small Basket Space:
    Length: 7 "
    Width: 11 7/16 "
Height: 7 1/16 " (measured from step to top)

I heard about this brand from a driver who mentioned it as a more economical version of an Engel. It was delivered today and it seems huge!! My husband is a company driver that just returned to the road after 2+ years of not driving. His company started him in an '03 Freightliner Columbia. Did I just screw up? It seems like such a good unit.

I won't exactly tell you that you screwed up. I didn't look at the dimensions of the other models either... Yet.

The cooler I used to use when I drove measures 15 X 21.5 X 17. When I stood it on end, I could slide it into the compartment with a little room at the top, maybe an inch on the sides, and I could have pushed it in deeper but kept it flush. I don't see where it tells what is considered "depth", "width", or "height". But, it looks like it's supposed to stay low like a chest, rather than a kitchen fridge. If so, It may fit. If standing it on end, I doubt very much that the 24.7 will fit into the compartment. But, used as a chest, it will stick out of the compartment. On the other hand, many drivers will put a cooler in the passenger's seat. I also had a second one in the floor behind the shifter. And, that was in both the '00 Classic I owned and the '07 I drove before retiring. It meant I had to step over when going into the bunk, but it kept things cool while I was driving, and in reach. I could lift the lid and grab without taking my eyes off the road.

So, I can't say it will fit in the compartment, but there are other options if he wants to do that. I would also take my cooler home with me between runs. That way, things would not warm up in the car, and I could wash it out every time I was home. 45 pounds empty could be worse. Whether you screwed up depends on where he will put it, and how he wants to use it.

On a side note... I would have killed for one like that, even if it would not have fit into the compartment. With what I had, I could keep a gallon of milk for 4 days, but meat and fish did not stay frozen.

Well Ms Brown, your question is 'will it fit?' and I don't have the answer for ya. If your husband is married to putting the fridge in that spot then that is indeed the question that matters.

But there's other places to put a fridge and let's keep in mind that the people that design these trucks have probably never even driven a truck. (I'd be glad to discuss the 2009 International Prostar with anyone that thinks truck guys design trucks. lol) I'll second what Windy said. If you put the fridge on the passenger seat it uses up space that's wasted anyway and isn't next to his ear when he's trying to sleep.

That looks like a real nice fridge!
