    Default Windshield Cam

I recently bought the windshield cam, but haven't installed it. I'll keep the thread posted with pics of the system and install in the upcoming days.

With '09 being a crazy year for road rage and idiot drivers, I wanted o protect myself, especially against a complaint or unforseen incident.

2200 bucks. Seems like a lot, but could be a drop in the bucket compared to what could be.

If ya wanna see pics of the unit, their website is WindshieldCam.com I think.

The software I use on my laptop in the truck has the ability to record video. I just wish they could make it so that it could make a looped recording so that it's always taping, as well as put the gps location, speed, time & date on the recording as well. It could end up being invaluable in the event of something stupid happening (as well as just being able to show people just how stupid some drivers are).

My thoughts exactly. I'll get some updates up on its' user-friendliness and features. A bit pricey, but a one-time fee insurance policy.

I bought a web cam (I think it cost me $25?) for my laptop. It doesn't loop, but I can literally record video to my hard drive for many, many, many hours before I would need to delete the file and start again. I started a new file each time I stopped at a TS or shipper or whatever. It worked good.

With the software I already run, it'd be really cool for it to embed the time, date, longitude & latitude (and possibly the city and state) directly into the video.

Default Looks like a business opportunity, to me . .

    Any update?

I'd think a workable, even wireless, system somewhere between the $25 web-cam and $2200 would sell like candy. The cameras and a portable hard drive should be cheap enough. I'm thinking the PHD would be good because of it's capacity and I'd want to have something I could remove quickly and pitch into the river, just in case. My computer has a decent (so they say) video program . . would that be enough? Beyond that, there's the splitter . . is that software now or is it still hardware?

not sure if you could do this with the internet cards for the laptops but there is a site out there (mogulus.com? ) you can start your own live web room with a chat room. that could be cool and it wouldnt eat up any space.

You would burn up the limited number of GB pretty fast straming live video.

Not to mention how slow it would be when you don't have a 3G connection.

    Costco has this . .

    Costco - $499.99 after $300 OFF Q-See 8 CH H.264 Network DVR CIF Real-time Recording

. . for $499. Is it suitable for this task? I've seen it on display in their store. It displays and, I assume, records all 8 cameras at once. The practical stuff seems pretty straightforward to me. It looks like it would work. The technical stuff like power requirements, shock mounting and record time for 1, 2, 3, - 8 cameras is what I need help with.

Beyond what we see here (1 sucky review), are there cameras and mounts, etc. that are better? The storm chaser guys have some pretty cool looking stuff . .
