T660 ISX idle shutdown override
 

This has been bugging me for a while yet, and I haven't found an answer to this dilemma. I have a 2012 KW T660 with a Cummins ISX. I haven't been able to get the truck to idle beyond five minutes. I tried the clutch, the accelerator, and bumping the rpm's up via the cruise control. So far, those things will extend the idle for five more minutes, but not all night long. Since it's a company truck, I can't just take it to a dealer to have this fixed. Do any of y'all know the proper way to do this?

Reprogram the idle settings on the ECM.

That doesn't work well when temperatures drop below freezing. You don't want to have to crawl under your trailer to break your frozen linings from your brake drums.

A brick tied to the accelerator?

I *think* that'll extend it to 15 minutes, but I haven't tried that. Besides, I'm often bobtail when I shut down at the distribution center, so I'd have to use wheel chocks for that trick, which I'm not crazy about.
As for the ECM, I do plan on asking the shop foreman about that whenever I'm there during first shift. If their programming software can communicate with the engine, they might be able to allow for override, since the truck doesn't have an APU.
I'm just glad I got it after summer was over, since I don't need A/C at night. It does have an Espar heater, though, which works rather well. We also don't really need to worry about fuel gelling up often and we keep anti-gel on hand during the winter, so that shouldn't be a problem either.

The company I work for just started getting new 2012 trucks with the ISX in them and one of the drivers told me his won't idle past 5 mins. unless outside temps are above something like 80 or below 30.

That sounds right.
I did figure out something about it this week. The cruise control must be OFF for this to work. For our trucks, I don't know the exact temperature setting, but this worked when it was 71 degrees, so I'm guessing that it's from 70 and above. I don't know how cold it has to be, but I suspect either 20 or 30 (since we do have Espar heaters). Just press the clutch when the check engine light flashes, and that'll get it to work at those temps.
