Actually Copperhead there is a restriction:

Rule 393.75 (e) A regrooved tire with a load-carrying capacity equal to or greater than 2,232 kg (4,920 pounds) shall not be used on the front wheels of any truck or truck tractor.

Tires. - Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration

I've lost 4 tires, all 4 were recaps on the drive axle. None were run on low air, only the one may have been the result of doing a curb check. The other 3 let go at a vulcanized area. My 4 drives were just replaced a few months ago with brand new non recaps to match my non recap steers.
