The button with the picture of the fuel pump brings up the menus with the 50 states. This only keeps track of miles/km run and is used for fuel taxes; you select a new state every time you cross a state line. The trip menu is the button with the steering wheel and keeps track of your mpg, engine workload, idle time, etc. I reset this one every time I fill up.
