    Default n14 accessory drive leak

I have a leak from the accessory drive seal on my 01 N14 in my Volvo 770 with 1.2million miles.

This is a minor leak that has been occurring since I have owned the truck. (3 yrs and 125,000 miles)

I have seen some references to possible front cover problems involving bushings and cracking.

Any guidance would be appreciated! I'am about to start some exploratory surgery (on the truck)

Almost back on the road since receiving my insulin exemption.

If the bushing turns, or walks out of its bore, the pressurized oil supply is lost for the accessory drive shaft. If your drive belt adjustment is too tight, it side-loads the acc drive bushing, and can cause the 'moving bushing' problem.

exploratory surgery? be aware that the accessory drive is 'timed' to the gear train. special pullers/installers are desired for pulley removal and seal/sleeve installation. Holset or Bendix air compressor?

My last N-14 got a leak in the accesory drive seal. Actually it blew out pretty good. Had oil all over the place. Simple replace of the seal and no problems again. Not that uncommon to lose the seal on the accessory drive, especially above 500,000 miles. Not an expensive repair. Since you didn't use the truck that regular because of your medical issues, the seal could have dried and cracked. Replace and you should be fine.

As I'am taking a closer look I am less confident that the acces. drive seal is leaking and more confident that the oil pump or the cam follower cover is leaking.... but not totally confident about anything. I believe that I will take it all apart and reseal and regasket. Bob H, You asked about the air compressor type...there is a "C" cast into the left side and a small maybe 3/4 x1/4 inch plate on the rear with really tiny numbers which I can't read. If I understand correctly the compressor and fuel pump need to be timed?? but not the oil pump?? tell me more. It may be time to buy a manual or........If anyone wants to buy me late birthday present!!

The accessory drive seal is on the front side of the gear housing behind the belt pulleys. The oil pump is in the gear housing just below the accessory drive. The compressor and fuel pump are not timed to the engine gear train... only the accessory drive. The timing marks can be aligned through a small hole just to the right of the accessory drive seal bore. The holset compressor means you don't need a special wrench to remove it.
