    Default Mercedes MBE 4000?

Any opinions about the MBE 4000 engine? Are most getting 1,000,000 before overhaul if serviced correctly? I have never had anything but 60 series Detroits and am looking at buying a 05 with the 4000 engine.

Ask the dealer about the TORQUE RATING of the engine. If it's 1,550 lb-ft or less, run away! I drove a company Columbia truck a couple of years ago and it had a Mercedes engine in it. The thing was totally gutless on hills and with 45,000 - 46,000 lb loads the fuel mileage was awful.

my boss has about 20 of them in our fleet. they dont break down. however, almost everyone has blown the fuel line off the rail. to me.. they are gutless. i've drivin a few that were great on fuel. i've also drivin some that got aweful milage.

we dont run heavy at all.. however, witch is real rare.. the truck with the MBE motor had about 70000lbs i had about the same. my truck is a 14.0L s60. both trucks the same specs, same gears , trans but i had the detroit. my truck is detuned to a 450 the mbe a 450. my truck will out pull it like its not even a contest. oh they also sound like crap..

    hope this helps.
