    Default 2004 Volvo Switches Question...

The company i drive for has a fleet of Daycab Volvo's something like UPS Freight/Foodlion, you know the typical play Volvo.. Well in the truck i have now the Cruise nor the POS Exhaust Brake Don't Work, now with the last truck had i guess maybe a short or something but at times the Exhaust Brake would Work and the Cruise Would Work But Then Neither One Would Work so i assume its a wiring problem or something?? Anyone else had this issue??

Is the clutch pedal switch out of adjustment or defective? If so, that would disable the cruise and engine brake.

    .
If you can't shift it smoothly, you shouldn't be driving it.

Usually under the dash right at the top of the clutch pedal.

I'm not familiar with Volvos, but usually it's a small micro switch with a 3 or 4 inch long arm that is contacted by the clutch pedal when the clutch pedal is all the way "up".

If the clutch pedal is not returning quite all the way to the top, or if the switch is misadjusted or loose so that it's not being actuated by the pedal, then the switch will not close the circuit, and the engine brake and cruise will not work.

Also make sure the wires are securely connected to the switch, and check for continuity thru the switch when in the on position (If you push on the switch arm by hand you'll hear a click as the switch actuates).

If all this checks good, then you've got a wiring problem somewhere else in the system.
If you can't shift it smoothly, you shouldn't be driving it.
