    Default Show Truck Question??

I have seen the show trucks that have a stretched chassis. I am buying a truck to convert into an RV. I need a longer chassis for the large sleeper/house. How do they stretch the chassis, and be sure it still can hold the weight?? Do they just cut and add a stretch to the chassis and bolt it in, similar to limos? I would like to do it myself as an amatuer welder.

Is there somewhere on the net that explains it or can you??

Stretching a frame isn't something you can really do yourself. They usually cut the frame right in front of the drives, and add in the extra frame there. There is an inner channel that is added, effectively "doubling up" the frame where the stretch occurs.

Frame stretching isn't terribly expensive. I've heard quotes in the $3000 range. If it isn't done right, you can run into several problems, such as the drive axle not lining up properly or the frame breaking where the stretch welds are.

Best leave it to the professionals who know what they are doing.

IF you need to ask? ...I would recommend you follow the REV's advice.

.. not a good job for a novice fabricator; when all is said and done, you may find a professional to be much cheaper!!
