Default Maximum out of your CB ?

Whats the best things you can add or do to your CB to get the best performance out of it? Is there boosters and recievers you can put on them. Sometimes I can hear guys for miles away and then mine sometimes only goes 2-3 miles. Some can talk and blow the doors off, whats with that. Any advice on what can do to get better everything.

Use wire antenna's. They really do work better. Put one on either side of your truck, that is, two of them to give yourself a better radius. Make sure that you tune the antenna's right with your swr meter on the cb. You can also have your cb tuned. I think the original specs are around 7 watts and you can tune it up to about 30 watts for increased power without much problem. The guy at the T/A in Richmond, GA will put it to 18 watts for $30 and 30 watts for about $75. This will give your increased range but not 4X the range of factory spec. Still 4-5 miles isnt unreasonable to expect depending on the terrain. Any more power than that and your into Ham Radio territory and need a liscence. Someone out there will correct me on the exact power needed for that I'm sure.

I have never had the need to talk to someone in the next county and can't really see the need to walk on everyone at the truckstop. My ego isn't tied up in having the baddest radio in the state. If I can talk to the guardhouse at a customers place I'm pretty good to go.
