    Default Brake Controller

Ok so it isn't a Trucking question technically.

But if you all don't mind I 'm going to ask it anyway.

Have a Chevy S-10 Blazer and husband just got a 19' pull behind camper, it's pretty heavy for the blazer doesn't exceed the manufactor's weight limits. The trail has a different outlet configuration then the standard straight.

So husband hard wired in an adaptor rather then just plugged in to the outlet.

    Now to my question.

Has anyone added a brake controller?

What about the wire that connects the battery system of the trailer to the alternator system of the blazer....... That is something new we haven't used before.
Suppose to charge the system if the batteries run low.

He thinks he has it all figured. I just am wondering if anyone here can be help if he needs it.

    Thanks
    TW

    Here ye

    Calling on your electrical knowledge.

on installing the brake controller under the dash ran in to a hiccup.

The blue and purple wires we found but when testing for power they only worked when the key was turned. For the braking system to work correctly we need the power of the blue wire to be on without the ignition switch turned on, right?

Found the correct blue wire under the hood, that has a stead flow of power without key on, so my husband is going to just splice into that wire if no other solution is found.

Hope that made sense I know how poorly I word things sometimes.

    Thought anyone?

    Thanks again in advance

Towing with an S-10 is like 4- wheeing with a Yugo ...Seriously you will be crawling up hills as that little 6cyl catches asthma on every small hill .

Why would you need power to the trailer breaks when truck is not running ?...so why would you need a constnt + beyond the acessory switch with ignition key in run or accessory ...The reason the accessory wiring is set that way is to keep from killing your battery when truck is off .

Thank's Jeep for your lovely metaphor. That may be true, but we have used the blazer for towing our two boats, snowmobiles, utility trailer, and now the camper. So far it is working. The 19' camper comes with power brakes that is why we are adding the controller.

As for draining the batteries the feature to charge all of them when the engine is running is going to be added so not worried about the batteries going dead.

I can only explain what my husband explained briefly to me, that for the brakes to work the way he wants them to he wants power to them with or without the key on.
I didn't know enough to wonder why. He said something about .... oh crap I lost it. sorry in one ear and out the other. . Got the help I was after....

    Thanks Guys!

Save all your snyde comments for Me,

I got it all wrong, He said he found a blue wire under the dash and it had power with the key off so he knew it wasn't the trailer wire. He couldn't find the correct blue wire under the dash.

    My mistake not his.

Say whatever you want about me, Idiot? yes. Ditz? Yes. Strange? Yes.

    Ok sorry....... I am sick.
