    Default 2005 CAT C-13 INFO/ISSUES

    Hi guys,

Just picked up an 05 t800 with the 430hp c13. I have heard alot of mixed reviews on this engine so I would like to hear some real world experience from you guys. Be honest and give it to me. I talked to some diesel mechanic friends and 3 of the 4 said they were pretty descent motors. Hit me with it!

    Thanks

We have 2 2005 KW T800's with C13 Cat's with 430hp the only two problems we have had with them is that 1. They drink fuel like crazy, you are doing real good if you get 5mpg with them 2. They seem to be real low on pulling power for flatland trucks.

Well I would normally say your right but One of those trucks is governed at 69mph and the other isn't governed at all and they both get the sme thing.

I'm a Cat mechanic and havent seen hardly any problems with the C-13. Haven't seen many in the higher mileage range yet because so many people are in the habit of trading trucks in every few years. I spoke with a Forward Air Owner Operator who was getting 11mpg empty! His C-13 was in a Freightliner Columbia though. Good luck and keep us posted if it generates any issues, I will help you if I can.

I will tell you to try and stay away from the C-11.
