need help...

my 96 volvo. it has a detroit 60 series 11.1 motor. can be just sitting idel and the motor just revs up. good thing it is governed or it would blow up. i cut the motor off and restart and it runs fine. seemes to do it more when im low on fuel. does it going down the road to, just accelerates and will not go down till i cut it off and restart. some time it goes a week or two with out doing it. any sugestions?

a friend of mine had the same problem a while back. it was a sensor. not a big problem, if it's the same sensor. have the truck hooked up to comp & the default codes will show what sensor needs replacing. I hope your not behind me when this happens as I live in north al, also..
