    Default oil in glad hands

just recently i'd been getting some oil in my red glad hand.

the oil looiks normal in color, not muddy or anything.

i had the compressor (reman) replaced a year and a half ago and the dryer replaced during the winter...

any reason why all of a sudden there is noticeably more oil showing up in the glad hand????

any help would greatly be appreciated...

The only way oil is getting in the air system is from the compressor.

Sounds like it is time for a new one. Try to stick with a reputable company, like the OEM, to get rebuilt parts. There are lots of fly by night rebuilders that may charge less, but if it only lasts a year or so, how much did you save?

How long has it been since you replaced the dessicant for the air dryer?

The dessicant in the air dryer takes out water, not oil.

Actually, oil in the system will ruin the dessicant so it no longer is effective.

I agree with PTD; the compressor is junk.

As to the question about how long since he replaced the dessicant:

If you can't shift it smoothly, you shouldn't be driving it.

Yup compressor toast, have your valves started screwing up too? That will happen in short order.

Another thing is if you get some off the wall reman vs. genuine compressor then if the compressor fails you can get your warranty anywhere in the nation, but if you have Jim-Bob's Compressor Rebuilders then you can only take it back to the place where you purchased it.

many air dryers have a sump and a wire mesh screen for oil removal

maybe... it has just been collecting in the air tanks over the last few years ;0)

if the oil is passing the air dryer, it means the dessicant is saturated, you need air dryer service

before you service the dryer, you should verify that the compressor is not passing excessive amounts of oil.... as the other have already suggested, this is your most likely culprit. although... some oil passing is normal

if the inlet of the air compressor is restricted, it will pass oil also

don't forget that oil reaks havoc on all your valves, brake chambers, abs modulators, etc
