    Default water leak

from the firewall, it would almost certainly have to be a heater core or one of the hoses feeding the heater core. Have put a few cores in these Volvos, usually in the sleeper, though.

It is only going to get worse. I would turn off the water valves and get it fixed asap. it might seep for months or it might blow the heater core apart in 15 miles. The engine protection features should shut the engine down before the water gets critically low, but this problem is certainly not going to get better by itself, only worse.

Do you get a syrupy smell whenever you run heat?

When I had my 780 it turned out that the coolant leak that I had was a valve that is on the right side of the heater core. It had gone bad and was a slow leak. Just a thought.

That's what I'm thinking too. I can't picture a Volvo off-hand, but there should be a coolant expansion/recovery tank somewhere, and I've seen them on a firewall. There should be an overflow hose coming out the top of this thing, to blow off excess coolant if the system gets too full. If that's leaking, it just means there was too much coolant in the system after it got up to temperature.

The tank is on top of the Radiator, the expansion tank is on the left side, and the hose should come off the left side of the tank if you are looking at it from the drivers seat.

**Expansion tank and coolant tank are 1 unit, expansion is the smaller tank on the left side, the coolant tank is on the right side**
