Default Detroit Counterbore question. Bob H you out there?

Tore down my 12.7L Detroit (500 hp) because it was running hot and pushing water out the radiator cap. Pitted liners, etc. My question is: Are the counterbore inserts replaceable and do I need a special tool for installation or can I use the same tool I made to check the liner protrusion? Also, I got a new bullgear; is there a big deal alignment process w/ special tools or is it put it in and go? Any help from anyone here will be greatly appreciated!!!
