Default Cat 3406 - Oil In The Coolant?

I have oil going into my coolant. The signs are visable in the coolant tank. The color is a pukie greenish thick sludge type. My oil level is down about one gallon. I was avised this is a oil cooler problem... it this true?

What is the cost of a oil cooler? and how should the system be flushed?

    Thanks

I prefer the term molasses. It could be that the oil cooler ruptured but there are alot of varibles...How many miles on it, is the truck smoking unusually all of a sudden, have you over heated the motor? Could have a blown head gasket probably time for a rebuild

No idea of how many miles on the motor.Truck has 1.287 million on it. A few people indicated that an inframe must of been done at one time, no records.

Truck is not smoking... I never overheated... oil pressure dropped to 40 psi was always around 50 to 60 psi.

My 3406B did the same thing and it was the oil cooler on the side of the motor. It's pretty common on high mileage motors. I found a used one that wasn't very old and my mechanic flushed the old antifreeze, changed the oil and I was good to go. This was a few years ago and I think the cooler was worth well over 500 dollars from CAT.

not sure of the cost... call the store

oil floats on coolant, so if you can start by pushing the coolant up out of the expansion tank... then flush, remove thermostats, then add the cascade gel (or diluted tsp), fill up with water, run through several flush cycles until water runs clear

do you plan to do this yourself?
