looking for a help on adjusting rear air ride suspension on 2004 mack vision. i have moved the rod up and down and cann't get a smooth ride. does anybody know how to. the air value is working right. there are about 20 of these trucks in the fleet and i have looked at diffent ones and there all adjusted at diffent spots on the rod.
do you but more air in bag for a smooth ride or less air.

the only thing the rod is for is leveling the cab, you cant adjust the ride unfortunately

Hi Al The leveling valve for the rear suspension air bags is not for adjusting for a better ride it needs to be set at manufactures specs. so the drive line is at the proper angles.

If your drive line is not at the proper angle your u-joints will not work properly and you will get a vibration and do damage. You mechanic might have the dimension for you, and it will probably be measure from the center line of the top shock bolt to the center line of the bottom shock bolt on the rear shock.

Get your rice height set (with the leveling valve) and maybe your ride might get better if you do have a vibration.

If you can't find out the ride height from your mechanic or maybe a Mack dealer you might look at the directions from a rear suspension shock absorber made specifically for your truck and the measurement might be in there.

I thought he was talking about the rod on the cab, either way, like we both said, these rods are not for adjusting ride. Macks ride rougher than most trucks, just a fact of life

Here was the original question from his original post:

The Mack guys have a gauge for measuring the proper ride height on that setup.

Theres only one right way to set it, and that's to the factory spec.

Any other setting can result in improper driveline angles and vibration with driveline damage likely, as has previously been stated.

Attempting to reset it by eye will not help the ride, it will increase the possibility of expensive damage to the truck.
