Default digital speedo, engine power loss

I have an 05 cab over w/ a 320 hp cummins.
The digital speedo that gives you trip miles hrs and rd. mi. and needle speed quit working.
There is a sener on top of tranny can anyone tell me how to test this system before I spend 250.00 for a new speedo?
Also when I turn key on and wait for gauges to set before I start truck sometimes the ceck eng. lite comes on sometimes not the dealer couldnt find a code.
Once in a while when gearin up the motor wont let me go over 30 mph in sixth gear, I have to pull over and turn off truck to reset before continuing.
Any help would be great thanks

This seems to be the same basic situation as described in the post in the link, but here is my comment copied & pasted:

Quote:
Had that happen a few years ago on a Mack.

Speed sensor on trans output shaft failed. Speedo registered zero MPH, engine was totally devoid of power.

I would assume that without a MPH signal, the ECM thinks the truck isn't going anywhere, and wont allow the engine to receive full fuel.

Replaced the speed sensor and all was well.
