    Default Cummins m11 opinions

I know they are a lower hp version, but are they as reliable as say an n14?

I have a chance to pickup a used 1997 Freightliner, with an M11. Just wondered if its a decent engine for say regional pulling. All we have now are n14's

    Thanks

Hello, The M-11 Celect and Celect Plus are great engines. Keep the air filter clean, do regular oil changes and replace the fuel filter with each oil change ( FS1000 or FS1001 or filter with stratapur technology will do ). The worst problem the M-11 has ever had is head gaskets leaking coolant, so look for emulsified oil on the dipstick or oil fill or in the engine vent tube.

Fleetguard is the ONLY filter with stratapore... it is a synthetic filter media, and they have patented it. BUT, I do agree, big C gets fleetguard only.

The worst problem that the m11 has endured is main cap fretting. If I owned the truck, I would much sooner do a head gasket then replace (or line-bore) the block.

Besides, who doesn't have head gasket issues?
