I had to join the forum. No big deal but I'm still waiting to be approved so I can go to the link. We are to do the test this Sunday so I guess I'll be going in blind. LOL Wish us luck.

That's the right link.
I drive for SNI (two years in Sept), and I was a bit concerned about this test. I'm 5'6" and 260, so I'm not exactly an athletic stud...more like an athletic dud. I actually got a milk crate and filled it with books to practice with at home, including the part about taking my pulse. The crate ended up being about 45 pounds, which was by design. I found that by practicing (and not all that much), I got comfortable with the exercise and breathed easier and kept my pulse down. Now, was that because I was in marginally better condition? I doubt it, but it did allow me to get a feel for what I'd be doing and therefore better avoid any anxiety I might have. I also reminded myself to breathe properly during the exercises...very important. In the end, I passed with flying colors as I'm sure you will too. BTW...where are you headed for orientation? I'm out of Charlotte. Good luck to you! |

Thanks 69XE. I'm concerned about my knee being able to support me raising up on it. I plan on doing alot of groaning to myself. We are going to Edwardsville, Il for our orientation. Hope to pass and be given the chance to prove myself. I am able to do all that is required of me. I do make some concessions such as I have a small ladder to help me get into trailers.

The "SS-KK" is simply a safe method for getting into and out of the trailer.
Being on the short side, I often use this method (unless I'm feeling particularly youthful that day...then I just take a running approach and hurdle into the trailer!). Step up on the ICC bumper, then place one knee followed by the other onto the floor of the trailer, then step up. The main thing they'll likely emphasize is maintaining 3 points of contact, whether getting into a trailer or entering/exiting the cab. The ladder is a good idea too, but I'm not sure they'll allow that for the test. It's really not bad on the knees, BTW. |
