    Default Sherman Brothers Trucking harrisberg, Oregon

    I got a call the other day from a guy named Dave, he said I would be hauling sheetrock useing a "B train", between Idaho, Oregon, and Washington, I live in Idaho, he said I would be dispatched to, Oregon, or Washington load, then head to Boise area to unload. So it sounded like I would be home every other day for my 10 hour (at least) off duty, I've heard this is not true, that I might make it home in a week or 2 and for a very short time. And when I need to do my 30 hr. reset I have to do it out in the field that they won't route me home so i can reset at home. And 16 chains on a "B train" doesn't sound fun to me either. I don't know I never ran a "B train". Can anybody tell me anything about this company. Why I should or should not take a job with them. Thanks

    You should really address most of your questions to the company. I will say this, however. Most carriers will not route you too close to home less than a week or two. It is too easy for the driver to become distracted and forget that he has a load to deliver or pick up. As far as chains are concerned, you use enough to be safe and keep the load on the truck. You can put a lot of weight on a B-train. I usually use straps on sheetrock. In any case, you do what you must to keep the load secure. One other thing. Just because you have 16 chains on your truck doesn't mean that you will always use that many. But you could use them, depending on what you are hauling. If it bothers you to use chains then you may not want to pull a flat bed. We need to use chains and/or straps on every load. You will likely use at least 10 chains or straps on every load.

    I'm sorry you misunderstood me. But I did get the info I needed about the chains, I ment tire chains and I don't have to throw 16, at the most 6 in the 3 states. As for the company they are going to tell me what ever they think I want to hear, a recruiter is a paid Liar, just like a Lawyer.

    If you run the northwest you will likely need to throw some tire chains on the truck. Your alternative is to sit in a truck stop or rest area until the roads are clear. Most who run that area regularly will need to throw the chains in the winter. It is the nature of running in the northwest. Whether you use them or not they are required to be on the truck during certain months.

    Well my actual attempt was to get the pro's and con's of this company. I did a search of the company via the internet and found nothing...good or bad. So I decide to come here and find SOMEBODY that either worked or works for them, but again nothing....so....I am going to consider that this company is alright. A friend of mine was telling me a couple of horror stories that he heard about them....I'm also going to consider that those are just stories as well. he told me one guy was in a field being loaded with hay and got the truck stuck, he called the company and they told him he would have to call a towing company and pay for it since he's the one that got the truck stuck. I find this hard to belive that they would have a semi truck trailer, and pup, out in a field loading it with hay...I would think the hay would be out of the field, oh and by the way this guy had not been home in over 2 weeks, driving the 3 states. And another guy supposedly had been out on the road for over a month, and at one time it took him 4 hours to tarp his load. OK i understand some of you are out there on the road for 3 months at a time...but you are also running 48 states...not 3. As for the 4 hours tarping...need I say anymore. I checked with the Oregon, Washington, Idaho chain laws and they are Pretty much the very same, as it looks I will have to throw 2 doubles, and 4 to 6 singles. I'm not worried about that. My buddy tried to argue with me that when the trow the chain up law I have to put the chains on as to their specs, he say's I'll be throwing like 16 chains, he's full of poop !! As for anything else I'm Ok with it. I'm scheduled to go on a bus Monday morning to the company's headquarters to start oreintation, which is 5 days. I'm just happy to have a job.
