Default Turned down by Heartland Express!!!

I work for a small OTR container company out of Jacksonville, FL. Company going all owner op...so i put in a app with Heartland's regional deal out of Jacksonville...no BS !!! I have 8 years of safe OTR Experience...no tickets..no accidents...nothing!!!. I called this am to recruiting to check the status of my application...the recruiter told me that his safety director reviewed my app and declined. I was shocked !!!! he said he only gets yes or no anwsers from safety and i could send a letter requesting more info on the desision...i have my DAC report and it's clean...very confussed....maybe this is a blessing.

OTR container as in how many states do you go to. That could be the issue. If you are only doing FL GA and maybe AL. They might not consider that OTR but local.

Consider yourself lucky. Heartland has a reputation for treating their drivers like crap. There are some good carriers around. I am sure that you will find something that will work for you.

I find it strange they did turn you down. I figured these days, anyone with 2 legs could get hired on with anyone...

Sorry to hear that. Did the recruiter give ya a reason? Like someone said, (I'm too lazy to scroll up to see who it was ), it may be that they didn't think you've had enough long haul experience. I know I couldn't get hired on with anyone. I haven't had any long haul experience in the last 20 years. I would probably have to take some kind of refresher course, even though I drive half-way across Texas, 5 nights a week. That's like 5 states.

FOUR whole posts??? Man.... You better take a break! All this typing is probably wearing you out!

As for Texas being like 5 states.... that is NO LIE! Something like 822 miles from Shreveport to El Paso! A solo can spend TWO nights in that state trying to cross it!

During my brief excursion into Solo driving a couple of years ago, I made trips from NC to Binghamton, NY area in ONE day of driving! That WAS 5 states! [Not to mention going from Grey to Blue! ]

But, the reason you get no "credit" for OTR, Wabbit.... is that you NEVER get too far away from a good BEEF BBQ sandwich.... or a 10 gallon hat and a "Howdy!"

Heck.... if you ever went farther away than any "border state" of the Republic of Texas.... well..... you'd probably have to learn a whole new language!

[ And you wouldn't even recognize what they call BBQ! ]

    No kiddin!

ok.. So maybe I should have scrolled up.

Actually, I did some OTR once. For real OTR, not just wheat harvest. I drove for SMX for about 3 months, several years ago. I remember picking up a load of steel coils in Los Angeles, and I took them to McKinney, TX. (near Dallas). I think it took me longer to drive from El Paso to McKinney, than it did from L.A to El Paso.

That comment made my reflexes jumpy too.

But ever since Twilight retired from CAD, he's been mostly just chasing neighbor kids out of his yard, and telling the same crime fighting stories over and over.

I've never crossed it at 55mph, but how much different is it than the 62.5mph I can run it now? Not a whole hell of a lot...

better than wanting to drive and not putting your skill to use. Regardless of the capacity you're doing it in.

    Default Don't worry about decline....

Don't sweat Heartland declining you. I've been declined as an O/O with my own tractor, drove all 48 states, operated under my own authority, own ttrailer...etc...just to be approved somewhere else.

Today is the "I'lll sue you for this and that" age and companies have internal policies to not provide reasons for not leasing on a particular driver or O/O for fear of being sued.

I'm a firm believer of the following: "Everything happens for a reason"

You are destined to drive for a different company in a different capacity. That's all..

You may have nothing on any of the reports companies require: MVR, DAC, credit file......but there is more to consider>>>>> trucking companies are no different in their research than any other company. They look at posts on this site, facebook, twitter, youtube. They Google your name and look for results, some of which may be several years in the past. You may have posted something online 8 years ago and forgot about it.....

Could be because of CSA scores. Just because your MVR is clean doesn't mean your are able to be hired anymore. Having run containers before I know the condition of some of the equipment to had to run, do you have an idea what your CSA score is? It might be the time to find out.

Not sure but might be the size of the containers? Are many of them 53 feet? Many dryvan companies only consider 53 foot boxes legit experience. Even celedon would only count my dry van exp. as valid.

Well, I would not want to get TF all excited about my comment. Sorry, Twilight, it was a slip of the keyboard.
