    hahahahah!

anyway, just went and had my passport renewed. i had to get the passport book rather than the card. i should get it within 4-6 weeks. on monday, i will be taking the tanker endorsement test. i may even go for the passenger endorsement just for the hell of it. there are also bus driving gigs in dubai. all it is, is driving american brass and other important people to and from the airport.

Well, that Dubai gig sounds substantially more safe than the KBR gig. You know the military will protect you if your hauling officers. Good luck either way. I was approached by someone recruiting for them and flat out told them. No gun, No way. At the very least I'd want a flak jacket and my trusty FNP-45. Of course I'm always willing to upgrade to a USP Elite .45 as well.

the dubai gig is also through kbr. kbr has a crapload of different jobs in the middle east and they all pay insanely well.

anyway, tanker endorsement is now mine. i had my cdl updated and printed out onsite. the only thing i'm waiting on is my renewed passport.

    Default The others

Syncro: I've just started looking into the same thing.

It seems like a great way to make a lot of money over a year period. We, otr drivers, are making a similar sacrifice for very little return and awful treatment.

The other companies I've been looking into that do this are FLUOR, acom, dyncorp and mantech. Did you look into these? What made you choose KBR vs the others? Are there other companies?

    Thanks,
    Very seriously looking into this...

kbr was recommended to me from other drivers who have worked for them, relatives who are veterans that have dealt with kbr, and they just seem to be more doable for me. i see them as a way to get my foot in the door for chemical tanker yankin', possibly other things. however, i'm open to other options with AMERICAN companies that operate out there. it all depends on the pay, benefits, and what not.

who knows? i may end up liking the first year so much that i extend my contract with them. i remember those times i've driven through some real nasty weather and came out with the truck damaged but with some gnarly memories that'll stick with me until the day i move on. i find dangerous situations to be a bit exciting. yes, feel free to call me f'in crazy. besides, working over there provides us with an opportunity with unique experience. the pay is definitely justifiable, in my opinion.

the pay over here in the otr industry doesn't justify the crappy pay, treatment, and all the crappy food that we all eat on a daily or weekly basis.

No disagreement here, it was what made me swear off the accursed industry in the first place.

    Default a contact at kbr

Sycro: Do you have a recruiter's name and number at KBR? I didn't see any open positions on their website.

Feel free to PM me with the info. Greatly appreciate it. . . .
    Thanks

yes, i'm still alive. kbr's trucking gigs overseas seem to have closed for the time being. in the meantime, i'm applying all over the valley in hopes of that one somewhat well paying local job. there are plenty of hazmat hauling jobs. the problem is that they are only offering $9 to $11.00 per hour to haul class 6 stuff. i'm not hauling any type of hazardous materials for less than $19.00 per hour.

There was a gal when I was at Con-Way who drove over there a couple years.. she said that they pretty much knew where the ambushes were going to happen and they'd put the peddle to the metal through those areas. They couldn't carry any weapons at all and even if they could, she said that she didn't think it would do any good. Kinda like being way out gunned".

Best of luck to ya. Just follow your gut. If something doesn't feel right, it probably isn't. Pay attention to your surroundings and use your head.
