Welp I was thinking of applying to Knight @ the Richmond terminal seeing that its hard to get back into tanker yankin. Were you doing OTR for Knight?
superior carrier truck 2215
sic semper tyrannis
I'd turn around and run the other way REALLY FAST! Yes...well, it was supposed to be OTR. Their drop and hooks turn into drop and wait for an empty (or chase down empties and burn up hours) while they sell off 100s of good trailers. Then, there is the famous line "deliver this local load to get an empty" while they pay you practically nothing while it takes you hours to do it....or they might just give you a crappy short load even if you have an empty. You write up problems with the trucks repeatedly and Knight just shrugs and doesn't fix the problems! Basically, between not paying you well and skimping out on fixing safety defects and D.O.T. violations, Knight has a lot of money...but you won't!
madaxeman is right on the money about knight. this company blows goats and i cannot wait until the economy around the phoenix area improves. when it does, i'll run far, far away from this piss poor company.
they're going to buyout western express. what do you think they'll do with all their trailers? i think they'll sell them. even the new ones. they have money to buyout a somewhat large carrier and don't have the money to increase the pay.
i made more during the final three months at swift than i have in 7 months here at knight. it's supremely pathetic.
BTW...that pay is with over 2 years experience, too. I didn't just start driving!
same here. i started with them 9 1/2 months ago with 3 1/2 years experience. unfortunately i had to take the job or lose my ass because of bills that needed to be paid.
Thanks, Mackman! I am taking a couple of weeks off. Then, I will start searching. I am making more money in the stock market than I was making with them.
the best gig that i qualify for pays a measly $11.50 an hour. the one i'd LOVE to get requires their applicants to be at least 30 years of age.
knight is undercutting swift and taking many of their old customer base here in the west. the fact that i don't even see as many swift trucks out and about tells me something is horribly wrong at that company. seems like mr. stocking is running the company into the ground faster than cunningham ever was. chit man, i'm around the corner from their sumner yard and it's somewhat empty in there. i mean, you can actually pull into there right now (2233pst) and find a legit parking stall.
God, I'm ashamed that I used to defend them! I mean 3.5 years ago they didn't seem that bad, but then again I had a dedicated run so it was hard for them to screw it up. Nowadays I don't even know that company anymore! I've heard them called"the Red Swift". Good luck Guys on finding better work! Can't imagine going back to OTR, just seems like you guys are getting screwed worse than ever![]()
Skimping on the maintenance is the dangerous part. It reduces expenses in the short term, but does not save money. Eventually that fix it work needs to get done or else the expensive problems start increasing, such as DOT shut downs, larger problems developing putting the truck on the side of the road, then comes the late load costs.
When companies undercut, they cut their own throats.
.
knight's upper management seems to be bailing out. there might be another "arrow" fixin' to happen....

CSA 2010 will hurt them if they don't keep up with the maintenance. Will also kill the driver if they get caught at the scale with it
