I work at Earl L. Henderson out of Salem, IL. All trucks have APU's, and for a small charge they install your inverter (like $25). They will not let you do this, you have to let the shop do this. For that they supply the heavy gauge wire though.

You have 2 110V outlets for when you are parked, but for like running a fridge, while going down the road you will need the inverter.

and many companies that are finally breaking down and installing APU's are now seeing the benefit of also "allowing" the installing of backup INVERTERS-- this way driver's won't be starting up the APU just for aux power to run their microwave or running their CPAP on cool fall & spring seasons.

    companies that allow inverters:

    Dynamic Transit
    Westside Transport
    Southern Refrigerated
    WEL

and anyone is welcome to continue the list.

At one time USX allowed big inverters ( 2500 watt I think ) You had to let their shop install but there was no charge.
Find something you like to do, be the best at it you can be, the money will come.

Celedon would allow but they have only one person to install them, not sure what the limit is

Werner has APU's on SOME trucks (I used to have one, but they yanked that truck and now I have one without an APU).
Most of our APU trucks have an inverter as part of the APU package (those that have Tri-Pacs). However, the company looks the other way if one's inverter can plug into a cigarette lighter outlet.
The following have APU's on some (but not all) trucks also.
    USA Truck
    Averitt Express
    FirstFleet
    New Century
    Fleetmaster
I'll probably think of some more, but I'm drawin' a blank right now...

Should point out that the upper Max I've known of being "sanctioned/approved" is 1750 watts * at least the is the largest I ever got away with (company knowing*) at Westside Transport.

Southern Refrigerated- recruiters claim 1000 watt max

Dynamic is currently installing cobra-1500(3000 peak 30seconds) watt inverters in all trucks ( charging the driver's a $150 deposit(refundable when you turn in the truck with inverter STILL WORKING and Left there.) but don't let them fool you-- the dumb asses are using 6-gauge wire doesn't feed the inverter enough amps to give full power to your microwave( won't pop popcorn) Have to use the APU to pop popcorn.

For those who noticed WEL mentioned here, please note that this is NOT WEL Enterprises of Concord, VA (They specialize in hazardous materials cleanup).

You mean they won't allow inverters. An APU is something the company pretty well has to instal. I've seen a few new USA ProStar's with APU's on them, but now many.

I havent seen any but mind you, all the trucks I seen in van buren where the old style 9400's so don't quote me on that. All celedons pro stars came with are bunk heaters. you sure you weren't looking at a lease purchase or O/O truck? I know USA have ICON and Opt Idle in thier trucks but they didn't mention apu's.

May have been a lease purchase or something I guess, I really don't know. I know they were the typical USA Truck ProStar but with an APU hung on the frame. I've just seen a handful of them.

They might be wiseing up and putting something on for driver comfort or mabe to keep compliant with idle laws. Might just be testing them out. All I know is they said no inverters, and all they covered was icon and opt idle.

Not that I know of. If they were, I'd have probably taken the job in two seconds flat. They don't even have anything for career seekers on their webpage either.

    ...updated...
    Dynamic Transit

    WEL
    USX
    Celadon
    USA Truck

    Howell's Motor Freight
    Werner
    Marten
    Barnes Transportation
    Carolina Tank Lines
    Robert Transportation

As for USA Truck, I see quite a few of their ProStars around Roanoke, VA that have TriPacs on them (or maybe it's just one that I see all the time), but they look like standard company trucks, not l/p, o/o, or any other alphabet soup.
FWIW, at Werner, drivers are only given computer-based-training on APU's if said driver has a truck with an APU. If not, then no need to waste his/her time on it.

One of the guys here at the DG account has a truck with a ProHeat unit on it. It's basically a Canadian Carrier ComfortPro. Last I heard, he was having some problems with it. YMMV.

Does any of the "starter" or "training" companies that operates out here in the west have APUs on their trucks and/or allow big (hard-wired) inverters in their trucks?
