Depending upon the felony, it can virtually guarantee that you are unhireable. It would prevent you from traveling to Canada, and can keep you from getting a hazmat endorsement.

Be happy you took the time to do research before going to a school. Most schools would have gladly trained you, taken your money, and left you high and dry.

my brother just had the same problem except his was a misdamenor, but he just got out of jail in either may or june, i cant remember exactly when. He had no training either and kept getting told no over and over but now he is with swift, he just left sunday for them. Not really sure if that is the best company to go with for training but they were the only one that would take him. good luck.

Felony is a whole different critter.
Lots of background checks with truck driving.

A person has a record, and they want to learn to drive trucks for a living, and swift is the only one who would give them a chance. Then it's a no-brainer, swift is the best choice because they are the only choice.

I think the garbage haulers aren't worried about criminal records. Don't know about them offering training.

1 20+ year old felony doesn't necessarily exclude you from going to Canada. Unless it was something really perverse or heinous. The Cannucks have this thing called rehabilitation, meaning if you have kept your nose clean since the time of the crime, they consider you rehabilitated. If you were sodomizing little boys, or dating the neighbors 10-year old daughter, then you may have a problem.

FWIW, 2 fulltime minimum wage jobs would pay you more than trucking and leave you with more free time.

I talked to a canadian driver who had a felony and had to get a pardon to cross international lines.

for one when you have two fulltime jobs you dont have any free time and the pay is still only going to be 620 before taxes which means that after taxes, if you have a family, you will only be bringing home about 550 at the most. How is this better then trucking? You still dont have time for your family and you dont get a 10 hour break everyday because your working all the time.

The way I see it, if you need two jobs to scrape by, then you shouldn't even have a family to begin with.
And if you did before, then they'll probably take off anyway.

BTW, I'm single, no kids and have known for a while that extra mouths for me would be a major setback.

ok me and my husband have been together for about 6 years now and we have three kids. after we had the first two things got really hard for us. I was working and going to school and he was working about 60 hours a week and we were doing all of this just to be able to live. I stood by him the whole time so just because your money situtation gets bad doesnt mean that your family is going to run off on you. Its not just the husbands responsiblity to make the money the wife should be in working too. But i do agree that if you are single and still not really making it on what you make, then no now is not the time to be starting a family.

Well, I knew I was already bad with kids when I had to call the older kid next door to get things under control with my younger sibs.
So, no-go for me in that department.
