Default Schneider - overall is it okay?

Hey folks, Am seriously considering Schneider out here in Los Angeles. Have 1.5 years experience in van.

Overall is it okay there? Like that it is "safe and legal" and allows pets.

Should I have a heads up about anything?

Could anyone give any tips with going with them?

Unless, of course, someone could recommend another company here in L.A. that allows pets with 1.5 years experience......

    Thanks

I'm no expert, but they have been in business a very long time and in today's economy that says a lot. You can hardly go wrong with someone who knows the business like they do. You won't get rich, but you'll probably still have a job next year.

Gotta take what you can get in this market son. We'll all be in the soup line soon enough the way this is going.

I personally wouldn't pull for those guys after what they did to me at Schneider Transport. You don't know bu we were the union division of SNI until ole Al and Don Schneider got together back in the mid 80's and tried to break us up and send all the work over to you guys at National. But we fought em tooth and nail and today there's still a few Transport guys there just waiting around until they retire but at one time we were 2500 strong. I still get pension check from Schneider Transport just as regular as clockwork which I photocopy and send each and every one to Don Schneider up at Green Bay with a copy of my middle finger.

Schneider doesn't allow any pets in their trucks.

Might check a reefer company running out of LA. I know Earl Henderson allows pets and runs a lot out to LA. They are out of Salem, IL.

I worked for SNI for 1 1/2 years but I was on a Wal Mart dedicated account in Illinois, so I can't help you too much. I didn't make anything, but I went with them when I had zero experience and they trained me. I was averaging 1300 miles a week at 31 1/2 cents a mile, but most of that I blame on the terminal manager.

Good luck with whatever you do...

Do you have copies of you middle finger already made up or do you make a new one each month? That made me laugh.

When I quit I was getting 1300 miles a week. Sorry, I didn't make that clear. I had made 2500-2700 a week pretty consistently, then Wal Mart decides they are going to add new freight to the grocery DC's. Dog food, paper goods, etc. Supposed to give us twice as many dry loads out a day. So, our terminal manager goes into "panic mode" and gets Green Bay to hire half again as many drivers as we already had. This is 3 months before the upgrade is supposed to take place. Drops all of us down to no miles practically, it was pathetic.

I stuck it out for about a month waiting on a better job and found a dedicated where I could be home every night.

Overall they did some stupid stuff like any other company. Their terminals were nice (I only went to Dallas, West Memphis, Indianapolis, and Gary) with restaurants in them (the terminal in Dallas had a kickin mexican restaurant). My equipment was good because I was on Wal Mart. Reefers with roll up doors or Wal Mart dry trailers and a new Freightliner with a flat top sleeper after I was there 6 months (the thing had 24 miles on it when I got it...).

I'd probably go back to them if I could find a dedicated account down here that I could run. I doubt if I'd go OTR with them, but who knows. I ran system for a few weeks with them when Wal Mart would get slow. Every time I got empty I had a preplan and got pretty decent miles. Plus, being a Wal Mart driver, even if I was running system for the week, I was off for my weekend (we usually worked 6 on 2 off).

If you run TEAM they will treat you very good. New tractor, coast to coast runs and liberal home time.
If you are a solo then you are treated like trash. SNI does have a few gravy dedicated accounts that are paid salery, but trust me you are not going to get to them anytime soon.

I would not recomend them to experienced drivers though. Just too big of a company and people who don't know how to do their job. You are just a number at SNI, but that isn't always bad if you know how to "work the system"

hahahha sure Ill take a Heineken.

If I had to give SNI a 1-100 score I would give them a 50. Don't know if that helps anyone.

That's kinda disappointing, BHG. Schneider's ads on Sirius sounds like a good place to work.

If your looking for pay and pay only then yeah Schneider probably is one of the top.. But very old equipment and rules make schneider one of the worst companies outside of pay.. If an experience driver would come on now, odds are he will probably end up getting an 2002/2003 Freightliner.. Maybe i'm bitter cause i want other trucks in are fleet besides Centuries.. I don't know but if pay is all that matters to you then Schneider might be the place!!

I've always heard that Schneider is one of the top-paying companies out there.

The Centuries may not be what you want to drive, but just imagine if you were at Schneider 20 years ago when they ran those International Transtar cabovers.
