    Default Food Grade Tanker Outfits..

    Hey Drivers.

I've been driving a little over 8 years now and am thinking of getting into tankers.

I have the tankers endorsement but no experience.Been pulling reefer all this time.

I got fingerprinted for TWIC on Jan 30th and Hazmat 3 weeks ago..Still waiting on both.

In the meantime I gotta make a move quick, work is real slow and I'm only driving a day or two a week. We're almost in a critical state cash wise.Just about wiped out the savings.

Originally,I was gonna go with I was gonna go with Indian River Transport, but I read some horrifying stuff about them on here and another board. When I called the recruiter, and hit her with my list of questions,I wasn't too impressed.Especially the only 2 day off policy regardless how long you been out.The 32cpm wasn't turning me on either. They do seem to have miles though.

Spoke with Oakley, and no dice.Gotta be able to get into Canada.I got a DUI in 94 and that aint gonna happen.

Can anyone recommend a decent food grade carrier that will hire out of the Northeast?

    Thanks for any help.

I don't think foodliner pays bad...i know guys working out of yonkers, ny that are on the $1200 a week salary. It's not a bad deal...unless you are late for appointments or knock off of work...then i think you get whatever the load pays. I think they have electronic logs now though which might be a pain.

That is not true you can get into Canada if you had a DUI after so many years you are allowed back in.They have changed some laws the past few years.I just can't remember how long the wait is.
A friend of mine runs from California to BC every week and has been doing this with Haz Waste loads for the past 3yrs>He had a DUI back in the 90's and has had no probelms getting in not even questioned about it.

    Thanks for the replies guys..

I sent away for an application from Foodliner. The other outfits I looked into all seemed to be Florida based and struck me as meatgrinder, dirtbag companies. No thanks.I already seen that movie.

I think I'll just pull a drybox for a little while longer. When my TWIC and hazmat endorsement finally get through T.S.A. I'll take a look at some fuel or chemical companies.

    Thanks again Drivers..Stay safe.

you don't need a twic to pull fuel do ya? i thought that was to get into the ports. anyway, good luck in the job search. in my humble opinion if you got a job now, try to make the best of it and ride it out till this **** turns around. i would not want to be out looking for a job now whether by my choice or someone elses. and one more thing, nice tat.

you do not need the TWIC specifically to haul fuel, however if the place that you pick up at requires it you will need it. Plenty of chemical plants that we pick up at require it and they nothing to do with the ports.

I believe it is 10 years after a DUI to get into Canada. In Canada a DUI is considered a felony, so if you have a DUI in the US, even though it is a misdemeanor where you had it, Canada considers you a convicted felon.

    Default D.W.I. -Entry to Canada..

As I understand it ,and it seems to be the same as other posters, is this.

Canada considers a D.W.I./D.U.I/ Alcohol related reckless driving conviction a felony. They will not allow you to drive into Canada unless you post some sort of bond. That's if your even allowed in.I know people who have been turned away in a four wheeler.I wouldn't want any static up there in a big truck, and rsk getting the truck and load impounded. That could only end in tears..lol

The last time I heard the bond was around 5 grand..Most companines ain't dropping that kind of cabbage. You'll be dropping and swapping before you ever get near Canada..

I don't know what the hell is going on with getting my letters from the T.S.A so I can get my T.W.I.C and hazmat..

It's been almost 5 weeks for TWIC and almost a month for hazmat.

    Minister's Permit

It has been the experience of people practicing in the immigration law area that Minister's permits are becoming increasingly more difficult to obtain.

When may a permit be issued
Minister's delegates may issue permits when people who are a minimal risk to Canadian society have a compiling need to come into and remain in Canada. If Canada's social and humanitarian commitments, economic and cultural interests, or international obligations to protect refugees and displaced persons can be advanced without unacceptable risk to the health, safety and good order of Canadian society the Minister's permit may be issued.

    Validity
A Minister's permit authorizes a person to come into or remain in Canada for a definite period of time. It will be valid for a defined period of time, and under no circumstances can it exceed 3 years. Pursuant to s. 37(4.1),
unless the permit specifies that the person can leave and re-enter, once the person leaves the permit is cancelled.
