Default Looking for a local job? UPS Freight is accepting apps

UPSF is accepting apps for future positions at all Service Centers. We don't know why as we have people on layoff but the general opinion is they want a pool of apps ready in case Yellow goes under.

I was going through our Kingman Arizona yard on Thursday and one of the mechanics asked me if it was true about Yellow closing up shop. That was the first I had heard of it.

The union members just recently approved a 10% wage concession in an effort to save the company but it may not be enough.

Union is doing give backs at yrc. Not going to be easy for them. Not enough freight for everyone, and UPS and Fedex have the cash to hang on longer and starve them out.

You really have to wonder about Yellow and their thinking.

Yellow was a firm, based on the same operating principles as Consolidated Freight.

Lot's of old drivers that have been with them for years and years. Lot's of old equipment. Even their new equipment looked old when it was put on the road.
Then they go and buy up another, similarly structured company......Roadway. In the process, they sold the best part of Roadway..the parcel service that was competing with UPS Ground, to FEDEX.

After that...without assimilating Roadway into Yellow...they run off and buy up portions of TNT and all of USF...which was made up of portions of TNT.

Just exactly how much thought processes did those guys use??

I feel bad for what may happen to the pensioners and the long time drivers that have everything invested with Yellow....but man....What were those managers thinking??

Greed is still alive and well in America.

Every State in the country is starved for LEOs. WA and OR have notices posted at the scales and CA has billboards all over the damned place. BP/ICE is looking to hire 40,000 new people. Put that non Millington meal ticket to work, young man!

Personally, I prefer anarchy. But good luck!

Bill Zollars and the upper management at YRC are to blame for our current crisis. Roadway was NEVER in trouble before Yellow came into the picture. It's NOTHING DIFFERENT FROM BEING AN O/O, MANAGE, MANAGE, MANAGE!!!!! Slowdowns in the economy will not effect you if you are NOT over leveraged and make smart business decisions. Good luck to all.

Here in Utah we are actually laying off troopers due to our recent budget cuts. But then again with as high as the turnover rate is for them, I think they just stopped hiring and will let the number go down to where they want them at.

I drove for NEMF in NY and my first truck was an 84 international that they had rebuilt, they did add power steering though. That was in 2003.
