Default Is trucking done with me?

Hey everyone…I recently had my TX CDL suspended for 60 days and was subsequently fired due to two ’serious’ moving violations in a 3 year period. Unfortunately in TX, ‘suspended’ means the same as ‘revoked’ and TX DPS is telling me to get it reinstated I have to retake all written tests and road tests. I’m not even sure if I want to go to the trouble of getting the license back. Would be a bummer to spend the time and money on the CDL and then find out I cannot get a job.

I had the two 'serious' moving violations (speeding 15mph over and following too closely) in 2008 and one other for speeding 10mph over back in 2006. I have 8 years OTR experience with 3 different companies, 6 years with previous employer. No accidents, felonies or alcohol related events.

What are my chances of getting hired by a reputable company or even hired at all? Does anyone know of an OTR dry van company around Houston or Dallas that would hire someone with my record? Or should I start looking for another line of work? Any advice is appreciated. Thanks!

You chances of getting hired by a reputable company are slim to none, and Slim just went out for a smoke break.

It's a carriers' market right now. They have the upper hand, and with all the carriers that have gone out of business, have a huge amount of drivers to choose from.

At least you were smart enough to think about this before you spent all the money getting your CDL back.

You kinda have a problem. Can-haulers might look at you...if you have TWIC. You could buy a decent used tractor & trailer..lease on with ACE Transportation.

Wow, I know it is to late now but you really should have gotten a lawyer and fought those tickets. They might have been able to get them reduced or something. A following to close ticket is almost as bad as a reckless driving charge in the eyes of a carrier. I wish you the best of luck though.

You should've cared this much before you had 2 serious violations...

One less dangerous fool I have to worry about..

I think Wal-Mart is hiring baggers.

they may not be done but you aren't going to probably find a job with a top of the line company. BOL, My issues aren't to bad and It took 3 months b4 anyone is willing to talk to me. It's going to be a tough road to get back on the road

LMAO. I guess this was inevitable. It wouldn't be a trucker's forum unless some jerk-off took a cheap shot at me. Anyway, I appreciate everyone's advice and I have decided to go ahead and get my CDL back. I have my '10 over' speeding ticket dropping off my record next month, so maybe with just the two serious ones, I will get hired somewhere.

Sir, I did have faith & compassion for the average person at one point, but when it's becomes a weekly problem with so many drivers, you start to realize it's a good thing really. Kinda like tomato's...
One gets all banged up, you kinda want to isolate it from the rest before it bangs and bruises them up too..
And when we bang and bruise up in big trucks, it makes big booms..

Sorry to ruin your Holiday season with my.....Speaking of the truth.

I was serious when I told you to buy a truck and lease in with ACE Transportation...that 15 over and following to close will tell ACE safety that you will fit right in.

Porter Truck Sales, Texas Truck Sales, and Truck Nation all will get you financed and into your own truck.

Find the topic that says "goin for its advaentures at davis transport" Or something like that, its a long one. He had a similar problem.

But what was said is correct, since most companies are not really hiring, they will only usually limit to the top tier.

Call the mega carriers. Swift,Schneider,JB Hunt, Werner, etc, etc ask them about your record and go from there.

I do know that Werner will not hire no with a track record like that.. following that close to get a ticket is showing you don't care how that person in front of you feels having a 80,000 lbs truck up their bum how said.. maybe its a good thing that you don't have your CDL any longer.
