    Well, let's see..........

    2000 miles X 33 CPM = $660.00 per week.

There are 168 hours in a week. You will be out for 132 hours of the week.

    132 hours @ $660.00 per week = $5.00 per hour (Gross)
    __________________________________________________ _____________

    132 hours @ $500.00 per week ~ $3.78 per hour (Net) approx.

As long as you are happy with the arrangement, in the end, is all that really matters.

Im pullin for JB and heres my 2 cents. In my opinion 2000 miles is a minor stretch i avg 1850-1900 which barely pays the bills. ive been with JB 2 months and i seem to reset every W/E except 1. But heres where the feed back from the site will tear me a new one. I get along with my FM pretty good hes actually called me a couple of times to talk about run choices. I think JB treats there drivers better than the company i came here from (Swift). Ive never been late , got a clean DAC, stay out a month at a time go home for 4 days then back out. Im happy with JB in the way they treat me (drivers). The econemy sux, freight for 500000 drivers to get 3000 miles a week just aint there. take what the recruiter says with a grain of salt. Its not all that they say, but they have a job to do. Im sure when this is read youll see plenty of replys from drivers who will say "hey i work for such and such company and get 3000 miles a week and im home on week ends. thats bull most of the time ask to see pay stubs. My wife works so what i make is fine for now. Am I always happy?? No. Do I want more?? Yes. I think in time the freight will get better which will make the job better and im ok with that. Im also fairly new at this (1.5ys) and I LOVE IT!!! Good luck from BJ in the JB.

I see your point Colin. I guess that it depends on the individual. The great thing about trucking, at least to me, is that there is something for everyone and their individual talents. That is why I closed with the:

I'm trying to keep an open mind on the whole OTR vs. Local debate. Some days are harder than others.

belpre, you big dope. will you guys really quit counting 24 hours ina day when factoring pay per hour. do you get paid to sleep? does a traveling salesman get paid to sleep? there is absolutly no reason that anyone should get paid to sleep...no matter where that person is at. this is a pet peeve of mine, something people do to bring down the numbers to prove a point. that is the great thing about numbers, they can be manipulated any way you want to make a point. i think the real point here is the SHOULD get 2000 miles a week at 33 cents...that sucks, and the 2000 mile is not guanteed when the word should is used. drink one for me tonight belpre...i gotta work.

Well, I currently work for JB Hunt. First of all, they do not do any of the background checks till you GET to orientation. you will call your "Investigator" several times a day while in orientation. I dont care what the recruiter told you. As far as the miles go, you will be lucky to see 2000 miles on the Midwest controlled regional. this is the same account I am on. I usualy get around 1500 to 1900 miles a week. You will get 36 hrs at home every weekend ecept for the weeks you have a holiday. then you have to work the weekend before or after to get the holiday off. Get used to LOVING Chicago! You will see Chicago a couple times a week. If you are one of the drivers who dont like to log it 100% legal, you will hate JB! They are ANAL on the log books! I do have a good working relationship with my fleet manager though. They do treat me with respect. I just wish they gave me more miles. The first two weeks you are on the truck you will have your temp FM. After two weeks, you will get your permant FM. I hope this helps!

Why the hell would you drive a truck for .33 cpm and 1500-2000k miles on purpouse ...that's only $495.00-$660.00 a week ...that's only an average of about $578.00 wk ,and 36hrs is not a weekend . If this is your dream job then go for it ,but personally that money is a joke you can earn that at a 9-5 warehouse job without a CDL -A . I made more than that at Werner ...OUCH !

I sat unloading next to a JB driver recently and had a chat with him. He claimed he averaged around 1800-2500 miles a week and was not getting home very regular. I told him I have averaged 3000-3500 miles a week for the last ten years (after finally getting away from sooo many years of the large carrier routine), get home virtually every weekend and by the house 2 or more times a week. He claimed I couldn't do that and not cheat on my logs.

Well..... if you have a situation where you do not sit anywhere unless you are taking a break or at home, you are immediately getting another load when you are done with the last one, etc.... it is not that hard to drop decent miles and still have a home life. It is not always the case, but my experience with the larger carriers is that the drivers do sit quite a bit waiting for the next load or have a l..o..n..g time to make a run. I do not have to do stupid things to run good consistent miles. If the loads are planned out right, the puzzle all fits together nicely. It is my experience that the smaller fleets that have been around for a while, and have an excellent, broad customer base, tend to fit the pieces of the puzzle together better.

Guess that is why I will never consider a large carrier again. I like not being known by a truck number or ID number and enjoy a family style atmosphere about who I am working with. But, the large carriers offer certain drivers some level of satisfaction. That is what is great about America. We can work where we are most comfortable and happy.

well mackman, yeah i am a dick, and i only have been banned once. so i got 2 names..but that is beside the point. obviously you missed my point, let me clarify. you guys that are "local", think that the only way to have a life and love that life is to be home everyday. NOT TRUE. you manipulate numbers to show that a driver out on the road make 4-5 dollars an hour. NOT TRUE. what is true that one has to be happy themself to actually love life. no i don't drive for, whoever you said. i drive for a contractor for Fed Ex Ground. i love my job, does it have some downfalls? yeah. for the most part do i love my job? you bet your ass. i don't look to see what is out there...if i did I COULD get that job. could you, based on your experience? maybe...more than likely not though. judging from your myspace site there we can all see that if you ain't got a beer or your balls in your hand you are not happy. that will last for a while, till you get all growed up, till then you will be a (hopefully) 40 a week rock hauler always looking to see what is out there. because there will come a day when you want to do more than, get your bills paid, and go get drunk somewhere. oh, and before we go there. i do drink beer, and a fair amount of it. but i also have a loving wife, three great kids that get most of my time. i am remodling my house, and in the summer i play alot of golf. there is nothing wrong with drinking, but when it is the only thing...maybe someone needs to reevaluate there life. and just for the record...lbj was a way bigger dick than me.

I know what you're talking about. there was a Heartland driver that told me I couldn't legally log more than 2600 miles a week. I get at least 2500 miles a week and home every night. I'm about 90% drop and hook so that helps keep me moving. That's why if I do go to a large company, I want to get on a dedicated route.

    Jed you crack me up.

You say you could get any job that you would apply for which is 100% BS. Also you like to put me down for being a rock hauler. Thats OK. But please tell me whats so hard about your job??? What the big drop and hooks you got to do?? Or maybe backing into a dock??.

I have also been driving our company's RGN (lowboy) about 2-3 days a week since the dump trucking is slow. The normal lowboy driver is fixing all the junk dozer's and backhoes we got. So i drive the RGN to still get 40/hr a week. I have drove a even bigger RGN before so this aint no big deal. Can you drive a RGN??? I dunno but i bet not.

What about tankers??? I got 1.5 years on vacuum tankers. 6,500 gallons. Another 1year on a 4,200 gallon stright truck tanker.

I can learn to do your job a hell of alot faster then you could ever do mine. Just keep that in mind.

About my myspace. Yes i love to drink beers and go out and party on the weekends. Sorry I'm only 25 and want to live my younger years with a BANG. Cuz before i know it i will be that old man with a wife and kids. So i want to have a good time now.
