Reccomendations

I hope this is the correct place for this post .

We are looking around and wanting some reccomendations of trucking companies .

My husband is currently a Driver / trainer with 2 1/2 yrs exp , he stays out 4-6 weeks and home 3-4 days .
He makes 0.37 per mile and at this moment is getting 3000ish miles per week driving as a team with a student .

he would be interested in dedicated runs though thats not a neccessity if the situation was right , he wants more miles mostly , since USA went intermodal and he got a new DM his miles have dropped 50% .
he enjoys training but that too is not a neccessity , team is not an option .


We want 401k , layover , breakdown and any other bonuses or perks they might want to offer


We are located in the Oklahoma area .

Anyone have any reccomendations or is this just the norm of the trucking industry and i should shut up and enjoy what we have ?

If either you or he isn't ruling out chemical tankers, and he wants to stay OTR, look into Groendyke. We have a member here who drives for them (Worldisnotenough) and absolutely loves it there last I heard after being with CFI. Comparing a dry van to a chemical tanker is worlds apart, and anyone that knows me knows my opinions on the two! Myself and many others here drive chemical tanks and are extremely happy, and would most likely never return to vans or reefers. We simply get treated and paid too well, with being generally paid for everything related to the job, with great benefits, and lots of real, quality home time with our families. With us it's all about the amount of work we get, and is not limited to the old "how many miles a week am I getting" deal. Just as an example, listed below are some of my personal stats from last year. Notice the lack of miles compared to how high the income and home time figures are

My personal stats as a company driver at Superior Carriers (July 31, 2006 to Oct. 07, 2007)
Gross Pay: $61,343.70 (All mileage pay, training pay, orientation pay, hourly pay, holiday pay, personal day pay, vacation pay)
Hub miles: 115,898 (Avg.: .529/mile)
Paid Miles: 109,115 (Avg.: .562/mile)
Mileage Difference: 6,783 (6%. All miles incurred driving to/from home and off-duty time, and out of route)
Hazmat Loads: 28
Days Working: 318 (72%)
Days Off: 124 (28%)

If you average this out over a year's time it would generally look like this:
Gross Pay: $51,657
Hub miles: 98,000
Days Working: 261
Days Off: 104

You could shut-up and enjoy what you have...OR you could do as Cyanide suggested, and have the other half talk with Groendyke.

Cyanide always extols his company but he doesn't always list all the benefits ! Like they haul some stuff that will keep you safe in truck stops. Some of the stuff will make you glow in the dark so people can see you !!!!

Hey, I get to see my wife and kids plenty!!! If you come into hauling hazmat tankers you should expect to get an occasional nasty load as well, be it at Superior, Dana/LTC, Miller, Enterprise, QC, Groendyke, Schneider, CTL, Usher, Wynne, Coal City Cob, Heniff, etc.

Thanks for the ideas , i will toss those at the hubby and see what he thinks .

We hadnt even thought of tankers , though he is hazmat certified .
Either way its probably safer than training students .
And definitely better money !
He was assigned a new FM yesterday and of course we dont want to switch jobs right before the holidays (plus vacation is last week of dec) so hes going to stick it out and see if anything improves with the new guy and talk to some companies while hes on vacation .

We are in Okla city , and i think some thought we was/are a team since i keep saying "we" but its just the hubby driving , he doesnt want me back on the truck and ya'll dont want me behind the wheel of one
