    Default Barr-Nunn???

I am an O/O and looking to sign with this company based out of Iowa. Just wondering if there are any current drivers on here that can give me the low-down? I am going to run "central hometime" and I live near Chicago...... also would like to get someone a refferal if I can.

I live in Central Iowa and have a truck on with Fremont Contract Carriers out of Fremont, NE. This is a first rate outfit. Plenty of miles and freight. They do 48, but have a midwest regional, which I am on. I just run primarily Nebraska to Wisconsin and Illinois and back. The rates are pretty decent and the fuel surcharge is VERY good. I haven't seen a fuel surcharge better with just about any other carrier. Surcharge is based on 5.5 mpg with a base cost of $1.28 compared against the national fuel cost average. Right now it is at $.53 per mile. Most of all, the atmosphere here is a family oriented freindly one. Absolutely great people to work with that have a great sense of humor. They have some company trucks, but are primarily O/O. The customer base is excellent with some very good customers that treat you well when you deal with them. I am well on the way to doing close to 150K miles this year, and that is also being by the house a few times during the week and off on the weekends. There is a group of us that live along the I80 corridor in Iowa, and I know of no one that has any desire to go elsewhere.

They don't advertise in the glossy truck magazines at the truck stop, they don't need to do so since they have a low turnover rate and primarily get referals by word of mouth. They have about 300 trucks in the van side, and 100 in the flatbed side. Excellent well maintained trailers. Lots of preloaded trailers and they work hard to pre plan the trucks so there is virtually no sitting. Sometimes you have to really stay with it to get the job done. They believe that if you are away from the house, you want to work. Then they want you to get home and get out of the truck. Very high productivity during the week. Good fuel network for discounts, they pay all the fuel and ad valorem taxes. Terry runs the midwest group and unless you tell her you want to run an extra load over the weekend, she figures you want to be home for the weekend and gets you there. They are VERY picky on the quality of tractor that someone puts on with them. It better be in excellent mechanical condition. They have a pretty tough initial inspection and then each O/O has to have their tractor inspected quarterly by the shop.

Their number is 800-228-9842. Their site is www.fcc-inc.com

Any questions send me a personal message and I'll give you my phone number. I have truck # 555 leased on with them.

Default Barr-Nunn seems good to me

They promise 2 days home a week, seem to be solid. THey were on my short list but just took too long on checking all the crap that they have to check and that in itself says something about how efficient a company is. You can make more at Heartland, and right now they are getting home the 4th weekend too. Give em a look.

My neighbor has been with Barr-Nunn for over 10 years. Ohio Regional. Home religiously every Friday. Was parked on Tuesday for Thanksgiving. He just got one of their new International's - nicest looking Int I have ever seen. I like the "picture" window. All I can say is he has been with them for 10 years and probably closer to 15. He likes the job, the pay, the benefits, and the home time. I have thought more than once about going with them, and if this tanker freight doesn't pick up I just might do it. A quickie orientation and you are on your way.

The short miles thing can be a bit deceiving. It is my understanding you only get the short mile pay if you pick up at the original shipper and deliver to the consignee. If you yank it the last 100-miles on a relay you don't get the short mile pay. That seems awfully unfair, but we're all grown-ups.

Undoubtedly, you won't need to look very far to find the exact opposite opinion. I have worked for a lot of trucking companies and don't have anything bad to say about any of them - even ROEHL! Some people just whine and complain, I realize that I have gone through so many companies simply because I CAN! In the end, they all treat you as well as you treat them. Showing a little human decency and common courtesy generally brings out the best in people - even dispatchers.

Sorry to ramble - but I say Barr-Nunn is AOK!

No... didn't hear about that. Will give Amber in Safety a call and see what I can find out. She will usually let me in on anything that goes on.

I tend to just keep running and I really don't get by the home office or deal with a lot of people in there so, you might say, I am playing the Mushroom.... kept in the dark and fed BS.

I am usually the last to know about when things like this happen. Sometimes thats a good thing! It does sound like a bad deal. I'll bet the driver is going to be shook up for quite a while. I would be.

PS: Just made a call to my travel agent. She confirmed it did happen but didn't have a lot of info on the result. Only that it was late at night and the person was crossing a highway and the driver didn't see her till it was too late. I didn't ask who the driver was. I really didn't want to know. Some things are better left unknown.
