It does have about the same amount of sunshine...if not more.
They grow Oranges and Grapefruit...just like Florida.

it's not nearly as humid as florida. dry heat is the way to go. buckeye, goodyear, and glendale are good spots to live in. avondale isn't too shabby either. all those cities have grown so much in the last 3 years. it's crazy! phoenix is an okay city to live in as long as you're north of camelback road. however, the cost of living in north phoenix is much more than anywhere in south pheonix. mesa and chandler are also good spots to check out. gilbert is a bit like scottsdale when it comes to cost of living and the amount of snobby people.
You will definatly have your choice of companies there....Swifts HQ is there and Crete, McKelvey, Henderson, Knight and many more have Terminals there....

Dude! This place SUCKS!!!! I don't know about Fla, but Phx, is top 5 for road-rage shootings, gang violence, car-jacking etc.....its hotter then hell in the summer...I do admit that the winters are nice...you can do ok on a house I guess, if you don't mind a scorpion sting once in a while!
Syncrosonix - it's not nearly as humid as florida. dry heat is the way to go.
Yea Right!!!!
I grew up in Phoenix, spent 4 years with Mclane in Goodyear peddling groceries into stores in the "dry heat" as soon as Mclane opened up in NC I got away from the dry heat (by the way it starts around April-May and finally cools off around Oct-Nov), the miserable gangs and the road rage which increases in the summer heat. By the way at times the dew points do get up around 60-70 and the humidity does rise, especially during the monsoons, granted not like the south but hey it is the desert.
Humidity, not so bad - it is miserable at times but at least you have cooler days throughout the summer. Find shade and it can be considerably cooler, not so in the desert -
Working outside - I personally perfer 85-100 with humidity instead of 110-120 dry - by the way your oven is a dry heat crank it to 115 and stick your head in it and see how long you can keep it there.
However, all things being equal Phx is still home and we are currently looking to make our way back in the next few years...
One of the positives - when you have had enough of the dry heat in the summer, the cool high country is only a couple hours drive and AZ is extremely beautiful up north!!
Just my 2 cents worth...

bigm, I'm in port st lucie, work in west palm slinging bottled water.
I really don't have any bad things to say about florida,. as far as what other have posted about gangs, Ft Pierce is 15 minutes away, and parts of vero beach you don't go through past 5pm.
from what I've seen from reality websites the $ for housing goes further out there and no hurricane insurance.
My wife is filipino so hot weather is fine, originally from ohio, don't want to deal with snow anymore.
Plus with both Indians and reds moving there

I have been here in AZ since mid June. I am working with a construction company and have been moving along I-10.
Casa Grande is close to Phoenix and is HOT.
I am now outside of Tucson and I like this area alot better.....cooler to say the least. I noticed alot of the guys talk about some real HIGH electric bills.....I think utilites are pretty high in the valley.
Here outside of Tucson seems to be cheaper.
will you be driving trucks OTR or working local??

the bad thing about queen creek is that there's only one way in and out. if/when the main road gets flooded, you'll be stuckt and ***t. as for my ass, i live around the vicinity of scottsdale road & frank lloyd wright/bell.
Sync been a while since you were down this way? we now have three or four ways out if you havent been out in the last year you wouldnt recognize it ellsworth and ironwood have been redone and four laned hunt highway has been realigned downtown queen creek now has two huge shopping centers its crazy not the sleepy little cow town anymore kinda sucks

Of course he hasn't been in Queen Creek area for a while, he lives in Scottsdale and they don't venture out of snobville unless they have to.Originally Posted by bigm3944

There are plenty of newbie companies in the Phoenix area, get your feet wet then jump to a local job or regional if you can.
As for the Phoenix area, I was born and raised there but I will never return to live there (left over 3.5 years ago). I watched that whole area go downhill like a runaway train and it resembles nothing of the beautiful valley I grew up in. Crime is rampant, gangs getting worse by the day, road rage is a daily event and murders are so common the news barely reports most of them. A suburb of Los Angeles is all it is and rapidly becoming a twin of it.
Word to the wise, if you have a car that happens to be a hot commodity of the moment then you will become a victim of auto theft. Auto theft there is in the top five of the nation and it is not a case of "if" it is a case of "when" it will happen to you. Car jacking's were on the increase when we left, in fact my old boss's wife was car jacked outside the video store when she went to rent some videos on a Friday afternoon. Watch your back, lock your car/house doors at all times, keep your garage closed and leave nothing outside your home you care about.
Good luck!
If you think you can or you think you can't, either way you are right!
Doesn't matter where you have been, it's where you are going in life that counts!
During my 13 months with Swift, I stopped in the area and bicycled through downtown quite frequently.
That particular area is just fine, the others though get kind of sketchy and then I just catch Valley Metro going back to the terminal.
I still go through there once a week with my current company and enjoy every minute of it.
It get's hot, but I'd rather take a load going there, than one going up to the Bay Area.
yeah, it's been about a year and some months since i've ventured down there. went to that one bar & grill place where they have the mechanical bull. i managed to stay on it for a minute and a half. i got plenty drunk, too!Originally Posted by bigm3944
car thieves are mainly going for hondas for their v-tech engines. that's no different from any other large city and surrounding suburbs. that's why i don't want to own a honda. i know it'll become a target for theft. if i get a honda, it'll be a cbr 600. although i'm leaning more towards a yamaha r6.
scottsdale may be a snobby ass city, but at least i can bring the bobtail home and the neighbors won't complain. the cops don't mind either. can't say that about the rest of maricopa county, or the surrounding cities. scottsdale is my home town. i'm here to stay. it's nice not having to see graffiti on the walls, not living in a loud neighborhood, the neighbors are actually quite laid back, cops that actually do their job, and the hottest ladies live in this city.
