Default My career with Marten Transport Ltd.

Well i attend the orientation in wilsonville, Or. on Aug. 5th through the 7th and the 7th was my hire date. I have been assigned a 2007 pete 387 with an apu, upon inspection on my end i found a few things that needed attention and those were all cometics on the outside that will addressed over the next couple of weeks but nothing stands out. I will say that i'm very impressed with the way Marten has treated me this far and i dont see that changing anytime soon they do what they can to make the driver happy and one more thing Marten doesnt care how many jobs you have had in the past they want to be your last one. From the office to the shop everyone will answer your questions and if they dont know they will find out for you. I will try my best to keep you all up to date as i drive for Marten.

Glad to hear it Bluebird. Just don't become another of those company drivers who are to 'good' not to wave or shout out on the radio to the other Bluebird driver going the other way.

I drove for Marten back in the early-mid 90's for about 3 yrs (I only quit to accept an opportunity to drive rigs and tour busses on concert tours. In hindsite, I should've passed and stuck with Marten) Overall, I really enjoyed my time there at Marten. From the office people to the shop guys I never had any problems and everyone was cordial and friendly.

At that time they only had the Portland Ore, Ontario, CA and Mondovi yards and were fixing to open one up in Ga. someplace if I remember right. Everyone I met at all the yards were always great to me.

I met alot of drivers over time and became friends with many while I was there. It was always great to run into someone you've ran with cross-country before at one of the terminals or shippers and find out he's taking his load back to the drop yard in Chicago and so are you. Ya get to have some good 64 mph company and conversation for the next few days.

Randy always seemed to be a pretty up and up kind of guy and as long as you did your job, you always had nice, maintained equipment to drive & were treated fairly. He'd always remember your name if he met you before.

They were always good to me. Got me home when I wanted to come home, got me out to a wedding near the gay bay once (no, not that kind of wedding) I was in for a high-school buddy of mine and gave me 3 days of R & R just because. Had the blubird washed and it was looking nice and shiny sitting in that Hilton parking lot taking up about 5 parking spaces.

Had alot of really good times driving for them back then. Especially the long 2500 trips when you can pace yourself. Had lots of 4000 weeks one summer and even a killer 5000 week one time. Probably why I don't have much hair left. I was alot younger then and log books could be fudged alot easier. The $ was really good during that stretch but I wouldn't want a steady diet of having to run like that very often.

I never turned down any loads. Sure, now and then I'd get a 250 mile run over a weekend and that'd suck. I just made the best of it. My dispatch would make up for it and I'd be running 3000+ mile weeks again.

Does a gal named Patty still work in the Mondovi office? Wish I could recall some of the other driver's names and shop guys. But I do remember Patty's name . She was my inside connection office gal and I'd take her to lunch whenever I rolled through Mondovi if I could.

Say hey to Randy and the rest of the Bluebirds. For me, at the time I drove for them, I don't think I could've drove for a better OTR company than Marten was.

It's prolly been at least a dozen years since I drove for Marten. I always still notice the bluebirds when I'm on the big road and wonder if it's one of my old buddies and if he's still driving for them. Randy's got his rigs still looking good after all these years.

Happy trails guys and safe travels.

    Go Bluebirds! 8)

The name doesn't sound familiar. It sounds like it was great back in the day. For the most part nowadays the only person you get to know is the fleet manger. There's so many people up in the main office doing different things it's hard to get to know anybody else. I'd have to say there's about 150 or so people at the main terminal. It must be so different now than it was in the early 90's. They have like 2200-2300 company trucks and 300 or so contractors right now. I'm sure back then there wasn't nearly that many. 8) 8)
