Yes im making .30 and from what i see the co. im with now you'll prolly die at .30 . And i hear they start at .28 now so i do feel kinda luckyOriginally Posted by headborg
Gulf Coast? Never heard of them...
I looked at landstar and to me they want O/O But i may be wrong.. but i been off the road to long and only have 6mos Verifable and im suprised that Shaffer is taking me...but i have to park in Crete yard for home time about 4 hours from my house. But i drive 3.5 hours now so not much differance. As for Crete i'd rather drive reefer just for the reason my chances on keeping moving are better and everyone needs to eat :P
Martin never thought about them... gotta check them out
good luck, and keep us posted....
maybe they'll get their :dung: together--
and you'll get great miles + no hassle home time.
Really though, you should consider going ---Red with Crete. It's the parent company-- then at least they wouldn't treat you like the red-headed step child.

If you mean MartEn, they have pretty much done away with hiring out of Florida 8) 8)
considering I just left them 7 weeks ago-- worked there 3yrs, 1month, 1 week---- oh, I don't know.Originally Posted by Weazz

now, if Shaffer is the only company willing to talk to you-- but not until you get your Hazmat and hang your pet-- then that should tell you something right there. They are seriously hurting for drivers. So, Why would they be hurting for drivers?
But then again.....everyone's got to eat- work to eat-- and maybe...just maybe( you being a new hire & all) they might run you hard....maybe.
Overall, it's a real good company-- be sure to get that Dental Insurance-- it really is premium good. Nice fat- 1,500 benefit coverage per year.
Marten-- will they would probably run you coast-to-coast + APU, maybe little less per mile-- but if you're insisting on running reefer. Shaffer might still be a step or two above in quality(driver friendly) reefer freight-- but, you'll have to get comfortable with opti-idle and zone dispatch.

Well i take it they dont have apu on the trucks and want ya to get 6mpg too huh...
Well i also have Melton bothering me at .35 but i gotta learn the flatbed thing and yanking a 90lb tarp around, no apu either. If i maintain 6mpg during 60 days i belive they said i'll get the 1k sign on bonus. pfft better be lite and flat roads
whatcha think about them?
and i belive the avg haul is around 800 miles
Oh yeah Stevens called and start at .26 i stopped them right there![]()
well Shaffer doesn't have apu-- but they never bothered me about my idle time or mpg (of course my idle time was only 49% and mpg was 5.8)-- the idle time reflected all that SETTING AROUND.Originally Posted by Weazz

Melton-- flat bed, ok I guess-- if that's your thing.
course, if you're gonna have to go get that haz-mat....... how bout tanker?
Superior?
Tanks sent them an app see what they say
headborg wrote:Unfortunately, unless policy has changed recently, Superior has quit hiring out of FL (barring O/O's) and hasn't hired anyone from there in several months. However, there's still Dana and Rogers Cartage that may work for him concerning chemical tanks... :wink:course, if you're gonna have to go get that haz-mat....... how bout tanker?

Ok I took the job with shaffer i dont know if i can change it to crete but i leave sunday and gotta do a 6wk training.![]()
Seems like a long time for training when someone that already runs a truck. But neverless i guess i gotta pay my dues til i have more verafiable experance.
I remeber the days when i 1st got my cdl i took a road test to a truckstop and back and off i went..lol
But it seems like tankers are hard to come by here in sw florida without 2yrs time in and living below orlando my choices are few for driving with anyone else.
Congradulations... and good luck--
Guess you'll be running out of DeLand--- maybe you'll end up with a Crete Trainer/Finisher for your refresher-- just try hard to gut it out-- then you'll be
ok from there with your own ride. At least, it's $550.00 a week, right?
Keep us posted, please.
Thanks, I know i have to park the truck at deland for home time. Heading to Marietta GA, for or orientation, pretty much all i know right now.Originally Posted by headborg

Do you know if we are going to run as a team or is the trainer going to be in the passenger seat only?
Kinda hope he is, Hard to sleep in a moving truck for more then 4 hours for me..

So he will be a seat warmer until he trusts me? LOLGuess that all depends on how much previous experience you do have-- how well your first road test goes-- and the judgement of your Trainer-- he'll probably want to got "super- solo" with you as soon as possible-- so he can make some Money himself.
So making him scream is a bad thing huh![]()

I can understand that, When i teamed for LCT none worried about my driving and one was pissed cuz i wouldnt do 70 in cali.
opti-idle ? when the truck starts on its own or is it like a tri-pac?
do the trucks come with power inverters? and do you think it would be ok if i brought my laptop with me during training?

opti-idle is where the truck starts and shuts off on it's own, based on temperature comfort setting selected in sleeper or if the battery power gets low( the only good feature ) .....after a BUZZER sounds the truck will rock like a fat lot lizard is jumping up and down on the running board-- and again when it shuts off. Could do this as often as every 20 minutes-- so try to go unconscience or in a Coma in under 20 minutes. Although, in the last days of my service there-- they cut the idle rpm down to save fuel and this did wonders for decreasing the amount of 'rocking' of the truck on shut-off.
Sure, bring the laptop-- power inverters( under 500watt) that can plug into a lighter socket is allowed....just not big one's that need to be 'hard wired'.
ROFLMAO about the fat lot lizard comment!!Originally Posted by headborg
