I'll be glad to share my experiences with them...

THEY SUCK! Indian River is the bottom-feeder of "easy" food-grade tankers, and Bynum and Oakley aren't far behind.

    -Still paying HHG short miles.
-Bonus pay tied to impossible incentives to achieve. That is, unless you never go home. Even then they have their "failsafes" in place to get out of paying these.
-Like their Florida-based brethren Bynum and Oakley, overpriced insurance.
    -Nonexistent benefit package.
    -65 m.p.h. trucks with 75 m.p.h. dispatchers.
-Safety department is a joke, as every time someone has come in to clean up the mess, they mysteriously are shown the door (can't be cutting into ol' Johnny's profit!).
-Hometime...don't plan on much of it if any!

What he said... I agree with completely.

They've turned down their trucks, expect miracles, and the health insurance is outrageously expensive..... They're not worth the free 800 call..... Home-time... :dung: arty: :dung: Last time I talked to them, which was the only time....it didn't matter if you stayed out a month or more....the most off time you could take is 2 days.....
Forrest Gump was right....and some people literally strive to prove it.....everyday. Strive not to be one of "them".... And "lemmings" are a dime a dozen!

Remember: The "truth WILL set you free"! If it doesn't "set you free"....."it will trap you in the cesspool of your own design".

They lost my original "avatar"....oh well.

Are there any food grade companies that are good to work for? Please tell me who they are. I have been considering food grade.

Did liquid helium - not too crazy about the idea of doing gas/petroleum but would consider it too. Maybe I am intimidated by it (hoses, chance of making dangerous mistakes, etc), but maybe I am just being a chicken because I have never done it.

Helium tanker was all drop and hook - cake, except for some of the places we had to put the tankers into - argh some of those spots at the gas plants were wicked tough to get into!

    Any suggestions appreciated.

    Thanks!

    Try Superior Carriers.
Finding the right trucking company is like finding the right person to marry. I really comes down to finding one whose BS you can put up with and who can put up wih yours.

For food-grade and living up there in the Northeast look into Carry Transit, H.R. Ewell, P.E. Kramme, and L.C.L. Transport. Realize if you hire on with one of these companies you will do far more work than you would an Indian River, Bynum, or Oakley however, you will be compensated for all the work you do and not have to worry about how many miles you can run a week! Hey, that's the same thing I preach about chemical tanks!!!

Really though, with all the non-driving work related pay the good companies give in addition to mileage and/or percentage pay it is far more profitable doing several short to medium length runs weekly than simply being a steering wheel holder running one long cross-country transit per week getting nothing but mileage pay...
