Default Lebron James (CFM), Mackman, others with a brain.....

CFM, Mackman, and some others with a little bit of common sense will probably appreciate this.......

Today I was driving down the interstate (I57 in Southern Illinois), coming home from ONE full day on the road (Saturday so naturally on overtime pay), in my little "half a truck" daycab. I start to pass this sleeper truck with some kind of vagrant looking character inside, and I notice something very comical on the trailer. This reminded me of the CFM story where he called in to the OTR company to report and abandoned truck and they weren't even surprised.

The sign on the trailer read "IF THIS EQUIPMENT IS NOT MOVED FOR MORE THAN ONE MONTH, PLEASE CALL (insert forgotten 800 number here) FOR REWARD."

I tried to get a pic off my camera phone but couldn't get a good shot. I can't remember the company name, but it wasn't one I had not heard of before. If they have to put a sign like this on their trailer, they must be a very upstanding company that treats their drivers great. Probably like 95% of the other OTR companies

The poor homeless guy inside was probably making about 25 cents a mile. Now his new cardboard box probably doesn't crumble in the rain anymore at least

P.S. Keep up the good work boys, you have more people who agree with you that are normally silent like me.

How about the signs on the sleeper that say:
"If this truck has not moved in 24hrs, please call 1-800-***-****"

P.S. I just got a good local job about a year ago, before that I drove OTR hauling boats. I worked for a very small local company and I was home every weekend. I mean a full weekend too, home Thursday or Friday and leave Monday usually. However, I still hated every minute of it, with the CPM, piss filled truck stops, bums begging for money, sleeping in a box, etc. I would NEVER do it again, EVER.

Well glad to hear that stanger!I see another follower, never a leader.Did you ever stop and think that some people actually enjoy their chosen profession?I am just an old man now but i have over 35 years of driving experience,3 million plus safe miles, legally logged, and always enjoyed the otr type of driving. Many years ago i tried a local type thing(i live in a town of 13 people)but it wasn't for me.Does that mean everyone should be local? No and it doesn't mean everyone should be otr either. But as your post reflects you have the indiscriminate knowledge to look at people and tell how much they make, their style of living(vagrant)etc.I have noticed also that a few folks on here have also found themselves a "new cool word" or should i say coolie word?I remember when the "new cool word was AWESOME".I just don't understand the childish banter that is going on today in this industry. As you can tell i don't post often but felt as though it was time to say something to the better than thou groups that tend to try to run these BB's.I wish all of you nothing more than safe trips and accident free miles.Remember today is only yesterdays tomorrow!Make it count for something........D.J.

Good post. Seems like EVERY thread here turns into a "coolie" thread.

I don't see what the big deal is. You have to start somewhere so you can't knock the coolie carriers down cause more than likely they were the ones that gave you your chance a career in trucking and got you that cozy LTL or local job. Seems like some drivers forget how they got their start in trucking.

Some drivers think that sleeping in your bed is the only important thing in life. I for one enjoyed my time OTR and only drive part time now. Last week I spent two nights away and I would still rather do that than drive around Los Angeles all day doing P&D work.

I forgot to mention there are drivers who love to travel and see the country so otr suits them just fine. Just cause they are coolie carriers doesn't mean they are bad companies. I think you also fail to forget, driver attitude plays an important role too. Just some food for thought! Go ahead and say I'm a young whippersnapper and that I don't know what I'm talking about. But ya know it's the truth!

I have never sleep in a truck in my life. The only time i have even drove a truck with a sleeper on it was for a road test. So i aint thanking the coolie carriers for nothing.

Not many. I prefer to sleep in a truck, I don't sleep as hard and I wake up much easier than I do in my own bed. This even applies when I go stay at someone else's house, hotel, or something like that.

Well for the record i drove other trucks besides dumps. Tankers and dry bulk. I did tankers for 2.5 years. The dry bulk company i worked for was local and OTR. I drive dumps now cuz it seems thats where i make the most money.
